Guest guest
Hi Belinda, Our immunologist ordered and continues to be in charge of Mark's IVIG. Our PED had sent us to him suspecting a PID in 1994. We went for several opinions as I was opposed to using IVIG at the time. In 1997 we made the decision to follow the advice of all those we had seen and began IVIG therapy. Our Ped is not comfortable with prescribing it and said that it was better managed by an expert in the area. Michigan is not a strong state for immunology and I know this is the case with other states. We were fortunate enough to have an immunologist from Cleveland work with an immunologist here in MI who happens to be a very educated man in PID's. I know of many families who have had a difficult time getting their physicians to prescribe it for various reasons. Often times, insurance companies are behind this as IVIG has often been over used or mis-used and is expensive. Clear documentation of medical necessity can be very helpful to families that are trying to get coverage for it's use. Hope this helps!! Always, Autumn (Mark Cd5-Cd19 PID and )
