Guest guest
Your Shriner's doesn't cover the cost of braces? Sorry, just curious because ours does, but they did mention in the beginning that sometimes they arent. Is it because it is a different kind of brace? Guest guest
Jane,We were going to try the Rigo-Cheneau, but Shriners doesn't make that kind of brace. We'd be going to Orthotic Solutions here in VA. But, if it is like $2500, I really cannot afford that esp with two kids needing braces.Noelle (12-2-01)Ian (8-15-04) From: Jane Bigler <janemhar@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Thu, August 19, 2010 5:32:19 PMSubject: Re: cost of brace - rigo-cheneau Your Shriner's doesn't cover the cost of braces? Guest guest
Ok, I see I know that outside of Shriner's braces or any orthotic really is pretty spendy. I have friends and family who have had to have leg braces and I believe they were close to $2000 if not more. Hope you're able to find a way to not have to pay that. Guest guest
Ask the orthotist ... he may be in your network. Also, they will deal with your insurance Co on your behalf. His office staff will tell you exactly what documentation they will need. Also, he can offer some assistance for families who need it, like if your insurance won't cover it, for example. We had no difficulty with ours--they did all the work. Guest guest
I am very interested in this myself. It sounds like the brace should cost about $500 or so more than the Boston Brace. Orthotic Solutions in Virginia has been mentioned on the web charging $3800 to those without coverage and $4500 to bluecross. Others have been mentioned charging double what it should cost, around $6000. I think I have even come across a price just below $3000. Supposedly Orthotic Solutions has sucessfully worked with insurance providers in the US to get it covered. I'm not endorsing this company, but they are the example I have come across that is most reasonable. I suspect with enough demand it should not be too hard to get the Rigo System Cheneau covered, and maybe even at Shriners as its cost isn't out of line with other braces. I found this discussion online http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10653 & page=2 http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10653 & page=1 Shauna Vancouver, Canada Mother of Kieran (2 yrs old start 78 severe rotation Apex T10 - 1st cast 62 - in 2nd cast 53)and Kelsey and . > > I was talking to Shriners today and discussing the possibility of doing the > Rigo-Cheneau here in VA for Noelle. Guest guest
Shauna, I think your figures are pretty much on the mark. Bear in mind (for those with US insurance; I have no idea about Canadian coverage here in the US...) if the provider is in network, your cost will be less than the actual cost. sometimes, the negotiated rate is FAR less. In our case, the approved cost was less than half the actual cost. Even if the orthotist is out of your network, you may still have good coverage. Do not assume you won't be able to get your insurance to cover a brace, even if they say they won't. You can apply for an exception with the right documentation. It is definitely worth asking about if someone is serious about this type of brace! I suggest asking the orthotist's office as well as your insurance company. And yes, Orthotic Solutions has been great with getting our insurance company to cover Todd's brace. Also, I must say that I felt it was a ridiculously low price for the brace that our insurance allowed. The orthotist spent two entire days on making our brace, plus more time for additional adjustments, plus time before we arrived reviewing x-rays and photos, plus time talking with us and our doctor, and having his staff deal with our insurance company, and then factoring his overhead, tools and supplies and training, not to mention his skill! It was an amazing process--totally hands-on. I would say that in our experience, far more went into the making of this brace than into any prior one we've gotten. Also, we've already been for one adjustment appointment, and have another scheduled in a few months--both of these are included in the price of the brace. Depending on insurance, there may be an office visit fee for these adjustment appointments, but again, our insurance doesn't allow that charge--though I would certainly pay it if they would accept payment! So, i guess what I'm saying is: I'd suggest calling the orthotist to ask about your coverage and payment options. If money is an issue, I know that Orthotic Solutions has a policy to work with families in order to get the treatment for the child on a sliding scale in cases of need. On a related note, I am so glad to see the threads on this brace (and others) lately! I feel so blessed to have found out about this brace, which we found on our own via lots of googling for a physical therapist, emailing one from California, who came to our home in Georgia while here visiting family, and recommended it!! And I feel it can help lots of children. It makes me feel optimistic to see more people learning about it. Guest guest
We talked to Orthotic Solutions in VA about a brace for Abigail while we were looking into our options. Super nice people..they said out of pocket the brace would be $3,000 and get changed every 6-9 months.. -Ami > > I was talking to Shriners today and discussing the possibility of doing the > Rigo-Cheneau here in VA for Noelle. Guest guest
Would your insurance cover any of that? I definitely can't afford that kind of money!
