Hi Ursula,

Yes, both and Annette have been to the hole in the wall camp. This

past summer was 's first time and Nettie's 4th time. The one here in

upstate NY is WONDERFUL!!!!! I would strongly recommend it to any child with

a serious chronic illness! It is fully staffed by nurses and the

camper:counselor ratio is never more than 2:1 and they do 1:1 when warranted.

Nettie has always had a great time there and they took EXCELLENT care of

and he had to go while getting IV antibiotics 3 times a day through

his BRAND NEW port! He had a great time and can't wait until this summer.

Hope that helps! LOL

Mommy to Annette 12 1/2 (Selective Antibody Deficiency-IGG 2 and 4, CP,

Developmental Delay, g-tube, HIV+, IVIG x 3 years), 6 (CVID, brain

tumor survivor, severe hearing loss, chronic sinus and ear infections,

asthma, seizure disorder, GERD, IVIG x 5 months) and Trayvon 4 (Ivemark

Syndrome, severe congenital heart defects, asplenia, situs inversus) All

wonderful!!!!!

Hi Ursula,

The Camp Hole in the Woods here in Upstate Ny does not do specific weeks.

They use to, but the " immunology " week was ALL immune deficiencies and that

includes HIV. That isn't a problem in and of itself, however, the average

HIV + child is on a minimum of 5 medications. You multiply that by 200 kids

and you see the nightmare situation for the nurses! LOL So now they just mix

all different diagnosis' together, many of which are cancer kids. The camp

here usually takes groups of kids from a specific hospital and with specific

diagnosis' each week. So Nettie and go on a bus with 2 nurses and all

of the " immunology " kids (PID and HIV) the 7th session each summer. This

when it is convient for the nurses from the hospital to go with the kids so

they always go this week. However, many of our hem/onc kids go at different

times throughout the summer, whenever it is convient for their parents to

take them or when it corresponds with their treatment.

I would call and see if there is a group of kids that go from your

" immunology " dept and see if there is a specific week that they use. If not,

then just pick the week that works best for you.

It is an AWESOME place!!!!

Mommy to Annette 12 1/2 (Selective Antibody Deficiency-IGG 2 and 4, CP,

Developmental Delay, g-tube, HIV+, IVIG x 3 years), 7 (CVID, brain

tumor survivor, severe hearing loss, chronic sinus and ear infections,

asthma, seizure disorder, GERD, IVIG x 5 months, port-a-cath) and Trayvon 4

(Ivemark Syndrome, severe congenital heart defects, asplenia, situs inversus)

All wonderful!!!!!

Hey Diane,

There are several locations across the US & internationally. Check out their

website <www.holeinthewallgang.org>. Wade goes to the one in Conneticut,

which is the original location & is right across the lake from Newman's

house. :) It's a great place & a terrific organization! Please feel free to

ask me any specific questions that you might have.....Wade's been going

there for 2 years now.

Take care & Have a nice day!

Okay I have a question. Are these camps all over the US or just in your

region? I haven't heard of them here. I am not sure that I would send Kody

yet anyhow (I honestly don't think he is ready for an overnight camp of any

sort) but I'd sure like information for future reference. Kody just doesn't

like to leave Mommy and Daddy for overnight yet, he hasn't even stayed with

Grandma overnight, he always wants to come home! I have had Grandma stay at

our house with him overnight...that worke! LOL

Ursula, I think Beth's son Wade () went there, summer before last,

and maybe again this last summer. He was pretty sick before he was

scheduled to go, so I'm not sure if he made it this year. I'm fairly

sure he went to the one for Immuno type things (I asked Beth about it,

because I used to be a counselor at the " Camp Mark - Special Camps

for Special Kids " in Texas, where they have similar camps throughout the

year, though not one for immunology, that I know of. There were a

couple of kids with CVID and such at the Asthma camp each year, though,

and some of the kids got IVIG at camp. I did asthma camp, CF camp (when

they had CF camps - they cancelled them a few years after I started

because of infection issues, then started doing separate camps for

people who cultured different bugs), MDA camp, and burn camp.

Overall, I think the kids had a blast, and the camps are really, really

well-staffed with both medical and other personnel. I hope Macey gets

to go, if it's anything like the one we used to do!

Take care,

has gone to Camp Double H Hole in the Woods for 2 years. This will be

her 3rd summer. I was really nervous sending when she was 6. But she

really wanted to go. It was her first time she has been away from us. She

did great. She has had the time of her life. The onein upstate NY even has

a ski program. She went last year and will be going again this winter.

Abby will also be going to summer camp this year. They do all sorts of fun

things....They go to the rodeo, white water rafting, climb the high ropes,

ride horses, swim (in door and heated out door pools) go to The Great Escape

(amusement park inLake ). I don't think my daughter had time to be

home sick.

This is the first place has gone where almost all the other children

has to take medicine too. She thought that was just great. She wasn't

singled out. She didn't even need to go to the nurse with to take her meds.

The nurses drove around in golf carts and gave out the meds.

The website where went to is www.doublehranch.org

Just my input.
