Guest guest
Whose side are they on—our kids' or the pharmaceutical industry's? " THAT pretty much says it all. The doctors I have seen are not in it to help my son. They don't care about him at all. I do, however, see how fast the pharmaceutical reps get in to see the doctors. They never have to wait. Last time I went to the doctor, 2 reps came in just in the short amount of time I was there. Sorry to sound so cynical but I can't seem to help it. Guest guest
I just wanted to mention that the drug reps are given appts to arrive at a certain time. They are typically not meeting with the doctor. They are restocking the samples, leaving the literature, and may speak to the other employees or the doctor in between his seeing patients. The only time that they have the doctors undivided attention is at lunch, which they typically have delivered to the office the day of their appt. This is another reason why it is best to schedule appts immediately after lunch, and not after, say 11:30 in the morning. I develop electronic medical records for specialists and in doing so, I spent many hours in physician offices seeing the workflow. And, this is what I have seen. So, don't get frustrated with the drug reps. The real problem is that typically doctor offices will schedule an appt every 15 minutes or 2 sometimes. That's why there is always a long wait! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Guest guest
The doctors that I have worked with receive no kickbacks. They do, however, receive free samples, literature, and such. For instance, a soap dispenser or stress ball with the companies logo. They will bring in lunches for the staff and occasionally the drug rep will host a dinner for the physician/staff. In my honest opinion, a doctor who is truly looking out for their patients does not push a certain medication or a specific drug manufacturer. I believe that there is an ethics situation that does not allow for financial kickbacks in any way to a physician. I think that it is a misconception that the drug companies run the physicians. If they do in any way, it is in the literature and the case studies that are presented to support their medicine. That is more of an issue than the fact that the drug reps meet with a physician during office hours. I have yet to meet a drug rep that is not kind and thorough. They know their product and are able to do a compare/contrast with a competitor's product. But, keep in mind, they are simply employees who work for the company. One last thing, the amount of attention that a specific doctor is not contingent upon how much that doctor prescribes their medicine. HIPAA compliance does not allow a physician to discuss the specific drugs that are prescribed to their patients in that detail. Hope that clears some things. for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Guest guest
They receive incentives to prescribe the drugs of one company over another. I used to go to church with a pediatrician; his wife said a drug company sent their entire family on a white water rafting vacation. Marilyn PylesTerry Poling <terrypoling@...> wrote: YES! Guest guest
Well, if a doctor accepts such an incentive, I believe they are in violation of both the ethics code and the law. The pharmaceutical company should have been reported and the doctor should be, as well. Not only do I deal with doctors through my company, I have several physicians/medical professtionals in my family. I am appalled by any physician that would accept such a gesture. That's just my opinion...and I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that. for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
A drug company sent my family Dr. on a trip to Hawaii one year. I believe the deal was that he had to sit in on some presentation. Yeah, I'd say it was a kickback. > > KLM...is it a myth that doctors receive kickbacks for prescribing > > drugs? > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
