Growing a scoby to give away

I would like to grow scobies to give away through a local health food

store, so I've started several in 1 qt canning jars.

I poured finished KT in each jar, put a coffee filter over the top and

secured it with a rubber band. I intend to just let it sit undisturbed

for a few weeks.

Did I do it right?

Sounds good Dee, I personally would not use coffee filters or anything paper,

but thats JMHO. I feel safer with

either cloth or the plastic lids.

On the other hand, I've only been brewing about 9-10 months but never had any

problems with an ordinary paper kitchen towel and a, suitably sized, rubber

band.

along with the Kombucha starts you share. You are welcome to copy and

It is the recipe I developed in 1994 and have been using ever since.

Quick question:

Afte 7 days undisturbed, each jar has grown a pretty little white

scoby. One is still quite thin, but the other 2 are about 1/2 " thick.

Should I be adding more KT or fresh tea solution to these, or just let

them do their thing?

Thanks so much!

Dee

Dee...just let them do their thing...each will continue to thicken in its

own time.

If you disturb them by adding new tea. you will halt the growth of the

babies and cause a new one to begin forming on top.

If, however, they are as thick as you would like them to be, then harvest

and put in a hotel with finished tea to cover.

Then let another start forming in the original container with the mother

SCOBY and swirl in additional tea to top off.

At least that is what I would do if I were making pretty babies to give

away.
