Guest guest
Hey from another MS fighter here I am no expert, but being Russian and treating Kombucha as a " regular " drink (akin to kvass, kefir , etc.,) I would not see any discrepancy that it should cause. I will wait for responces from wise members of this group - there is always something I don't know. Guest guest
> > Hi and happy new year to all. > > I love Kombucha but did wonder if anyone knows if it reacts with > prescribed medication? Hi ....tough question...so many variables. First....I also consider my KT to be a healthful food. I do always try to use only organic ingredients. (avoidance of residual pesticides, etc.) I can only say I can recall no claims from anyone regarding reactions with prescriptions. I know there have been many folks who have been able to get off prescriptions with drinking KT on a regular basis. I think the bottom line is you have to go with your gut feeling combined with any info you can get from your prescribing physician and your pharmacist. Good luck to you.... Guest guest
, Having many years experience in both pharmacy and nursing, off the top of my head, I don't see any major problems except I'm wondering if the acidity of KT could possibly increase the amount of the drugs absorbed? That's just conjecture, but it may be better to not drink KT for an hour before taking meds and 2 hours after. On another note, taking Simvastatin with MS seems questionable. All statins actually can cause a syndrome which appears to mimic MS (statin induced myopathy) so, if you are taking a statin AND have MS...well, I think that could be a problem! I can't help but wonder if the statins are the cause of your kidney pain. I'm not trying to give you medical advice or scare you, I just see it as a potential problem. Talk to your doctor about that. I was put on statins when they first came out. After a few months doctors were convinced I had MS, but the MRI was negative. Then my doc read about statins causing muscle breakdown and told me to get off of them and within a few weeks all symptoms were gone. I was one of the first reported cases and it nearly cost me my kidneys. The protein from the muscle breakdown caused by statins eventually clogs up your kidneys. If you are going to take it, make sure you take CoQ10 too! Hope this helps. Patty I love Kombucha but did wonder if anyone knows if it reacts with prescribed medication? Sort of 'if i take ect, should i avoid kt' I am on lifelong medication for depression. i take paroxetine. I also take cholesterol tablets eg Simvastatin And medication for my MS, baclofen and pregabalin Blessings .
Guest guest
Hi Patty, I know you aren't giving medical advice or anything (legal disclaimer ;0)), but I was wondering what you thought about the effect of drinking KT with Synthroid. I take my Synthroid when I get up, and within a short time after, I drink my KT to get my energy up for my morning workout. Considering that all this happens at 4:30/5 am, I don't really have the time window to wait the two hours after taking my meds, before drinking KT. I would think that for my purposes the more of the Synthroid I absorb, the better. I haven't noticed any adverse effects thus far from the mixture, but your well informed opinion would be appreciated! :0) Thanks, Ana From: kombucha tea [mailto:kombucha tea ] On Behalf Of Patty Sent: Saturday, December 29, 2007 10:36 AM kombucha tea Subject: Re: KT and other tablets , Having many years experience in both pharmacy and nursing, off the top of my head, I don't see any major problems except I'm wondering if the acidity of KT could possibly increase the amount of the drugs absorbed? Guest guest
Hi and EveryOne, Ask your doctor or pharmacist if any of the drugs you take would react to vinegar....if so, then you probably should take that drug at a different time than you take your Kombucha. Basically Kombucha is a food but an acidic one so drugs that react to acid may react with KT. You may want to reduce the amount of KT you drink and increase the amount of plain water until your kidneys and other body part get used to it. No point in going too fast. Best wishes for your health and happiness in the New Year. Guest guest
Ana Marie, I honestly don't know the answer to that. The only thing I'm aware of that's a problem with Synthroid is that Calcium inhibits absorption. It's usually recommended to take it on an empty stomach. I like Bev's answer...ask your doctor if it can be taken with vinegar (personally, I think the pharmacist is more likely to know). I spent a short time looking for an answer but didn't find one for you. Patty I was wondering what you thought about the effect of drinking KT with Synthroid.
