Guest guest Posted April 25, 2005 Report Share Posted April 25, 2005 Dear Families and Friends: We need your help- please call your Senators in Washington and ask them to please co-sponsor "Combating Autism Act of 2005" On Tues April 19 the Combating Autism Act of 2005 was introduced by Senators Santorum and Dodd. The proposed legislators would: provide grant programs for every state to develop autism screening, early diagnosis and intervention programs for children.The act would also provide: * Twice the number of NIH Centers of Excellence Programs for research on autism * Expansion of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Collaborative Programs of Excellence in Autism * Funds for CDC epidemiological surveillance programs * Establishment of Centers of Excellence regarding environmental health and autism * Reauthorization of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), established in the Children's Health Act of 2000, tocoordinate all efforts within the Department of Health and Human Services concerning autism, including activities carried out through NIH and the CDC When you call your Senator ask to speak to them or their staff that handles disability issues. Message: I am the parent or friend of a child or family member with autism. I am asking that Senator ---- please co-sponsor the "Combating Autism Act of 2005". 1 in every 166 children are diagnosed with autism. As per the CDC there are 1.77 million individuals diagnosed with autism.
