Hi :

Here is a copy of a Texas Religious Exemption that I had prepared for my

youngest daughter, who just started kindergarten this morning. We didn't need

to use it since we got a " Medical Exemption " signed by a doctor friend of mine

after having her titers checked and confirming that she was immune to mumps,

measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and Hib. I prepared it just in

case we didn't get the medical exemption.

Hope it helps--All are free to use it--it complies with Texas law to the

letter.

My best.

In accordance with the Texas Education Code, Section 38.001, regarding

exceptions to immunization requirements, we hereby certify that the

administration of vaccine and other immunizing agents to our child,

exempted from the school immunization requirements.

Let this letter also apply for religious exemption from the other state

immunization requirements in accordance with the religious exemption provisions

of Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 161.004 (statewide immunization of

children), Human Resource Code, Section 42.043 (admission to day care centers),

Vaccine Objection

I have just had Religious Objections notarized for my sons' school

district. (We decided not to wait for the forms for Conscientuous

Objection due to the roadblocks TDH is already raising.) Is there

anything else that I need to include with the letter? Would a copy

of the TX Education Code help?

This is our boys' first year in school so I have not had to do this

before.

Thanks.

My son's pediatrician was evidently wrong about being able to check the

titers on pertussis...she said their lab didn't do that or the polio but

they could do the MMR, and diphtheria and tetanus. I guess I'd better have

her check again.

Does anyone know if the concientious objection is replacing the

religious objection? I filed a religious objection for my son as he

started PPCD at the start of the school year and I did not want to

push the 30 day deadline trying to navigate the C.O. on September 1.

The nurse at his school is saying that, even though we filed the

religious exemption, we have to file a concientious objection on

9.1. Is this correct?

Thanks.

This does not sound right to me. I am in almost the same boat. Waiting on the

conscientious objection form but have the religious exemption from last year,

re-notarized and in hand. However, the school as of yet has not confronted me.

On the TDH website it says the forms will be available no later than September

1, 2003

Has anyone in the know answered this post?

At the above News release from the Texas Dept. of Health, near the bottom of

the release, it says that parents that have a current exemption on file for

Religious reasons are NOT required to file a new exemption form under the

new law.

Has anyone else heard this? IS this correct?

I just spoke to a rep at the Dept. of Health and he said that IF you have an

exemption on file for Religious reasons, with the school district, under the

current law, and before 9/1/2003- then you do not have to submit a new form

under the new law in effect after 9/1/2003.

Again, it says this on their news release at:

http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/news/b_new491.htm

<http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/news/b_new491.htm>

I am still interested to hear from Dawn or Jeff, as to whether they have

heard this and is true as it appears to be to me at this time.

Hi Jack & :

The conscientious objection and the religious exemption are two separate and

distinct options parents have, in addition to the old, more difficult to obtain,

medical exemption. In Texas, as of September 1st, we will have 3 options when

faced with declining a mandatory pediatric vaccination after informing

yourselves of the risks and benefits. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

My best.
