Guest guest
when one of my four kids would come home from school and said he wont eat for supper and was sick at school I would make him drink some colloidal silver and in in one hour he was eating again and that was the end of it. Re: KT for nausea and diarrhea? Kombucha is what I give all my kids when someone is sick with a stomach thing and it usually stops it in its tracks. Especially if he wants it, I would give it to him, making sure that he drinks at least as much as well. So sorry your baby had to go to the hospital :-( maria. Guest guest
Thanks! I diluted it about half and half with juice and he's nursing a lot so he's definitely getting other liquids. The hospital wasn't bad once I got out of the ER and they didn't treat me like I was crazy for not wanting to give him motrin for his fever. I'd rather support a fever as long as it's not at a dangerous level. They (the ER nurses) just wanted it gone. He's not acting like it's bothering him. It's good to know that KT usually stops things in it's tracks for your family. I hope it does for my ds too. > > > Anyone used KT when sick with these symptoms? > > > > My son (16 mo) has had diarrhea and vomiting since Tuesday and was > > hospitalized on Wednesday and Thursday for rehydration and rebalancing > > of his electrolytes. Guest guest
Please observe your son carefully. Kefir is better than kombycha for something of this nature. Is the diarrhea foul smelling? My son had a rotovirus at 16 months old. He was also rehydrated and etc in the ER 2 days in a row. He was sick for 4 or 5 days running. On Monday, fever was gone but he was still vomiting and had diarrhea. I was wavering about bringing him to the doctor yet *again*. Then a voice siad in my head, sternly, " You better pay attention! " I called the doctor, he told me he thought I was being over cautious but to bring him in. My mom came to the door to babysit, looked at him and pronounced, " He's fine! " I took him in, doctor didn't think he was too bad. I began to pray, " Lord, give this man wisdom for my son. " He began o change his thoughts, said to bring him back to the ER, and then said he would be disappointed if they didn't admit him. Brought him in, they did bloodwork. I was nursing him in the waiting area when they came charging in and swooped him up to ICU. His potassium level was 2! Incompatible with life, and they couldn't even give him potassium until they were sure his kidneys hadn't shut down yet! They told me I had brought him in just on the " edge " ! He was ready to go into kidney and heart failure! Thankfully, he peed a tiny bit of brown urine, so they started a bolus of potassium. His tissues were so depleted that he took 2 starting boluses before his levels began to go up! For three days my very active 16 mo old laid there very unresponsively. I did not leave for three days. They did not want me to nurse him. On the end of the second day, I sneakily began nursing him and he began to improve from that point on. A few years later I read an article that stated doctors had " discovered " that breast milk *was* beneficial for rotovirus, instead of being contraindicated. But by the time he was admitted, he no longer had the virus---the vomiting and diarrhea was from his electrolyte depletion and potassium level being so low. Now I am very quick to tell mothers to pay attention to a prolonged bout of vomiting and diarrhea. I would say God has a plan for my son's life, wouldn't you? For months afterward, whenever I thought how close we came to losing him, I would just hug him and squeeze him close. Jill.

Guest guest
Saccharomyces boulardii is a specific strain of the common Saccharomyces yeasts used in ferments. This particular strain is well noted for helping with diarrhea. Especially for anti-biotic related infant diarrhea and used in rehydration therapy. Capsules and Off the Shelf products are widely available. Fleischmann's Yeasts (S. cerevisae) very reliable. and used in some studies of infant diarrhea. Some suggested dosages for the wet cake 1/4 cake daily or 1/8 teaspoon four times a day for the dry, for 14 days. There is noted concern for immune compromised individuals for this therapy. Fleischmann notes 1,010 organisms of S.cerevaise per gram. GT Kombucha states S, boulardii is in his product. and there are 1 billion. don't know if he means per serving which then there are only 1/2 or per bottle. He is the only one that I know of that states that strain. S. boulardii has sometimes been identified as S. cerevisae Although by most accounts they are different. GrainFields produces both a Liquid Probiotic and a powder and list both S. boulardii and S. cerevisae as well as other all organic probiotics like lactobacillus, a beneficial bacteria also listed in GT's. Grainfield is very much more specific on contents and numerous strains. B.E. GrainFields Probiotic http://tinyurl.com/2mpe4j Normally I do not recommend kombucha while nursing, or for newborns or children before the age of 3 or 4. http://www.happyherbalist.com/cautions.htm The concern is that a new born digestive tract is still developing and even a good thing can easily overwhelm such a fragile system. Kombucha tea has been reported to cause diarrhea or loose stools, stomach unrest, gurgling which is probably related to " healing reaction " or detox. Taking probiotics with food or water will increase the proliferation ability of the probiotics. I do suggest you talk over this therapy with your doctor first, as this is a serious concern, and wonder why they did not advise you of this protocol. The recent voluntary recall of Children's Cold and Flu medicine, as well as fever reducers has been a shock to many. The common notion that one just reduce the dosage will achieve success has been documented to be very bad medicine. Babies and children are not simply small people they have to be considered in their class. Maybe that had more to do with the hospital not prescribing anything to reduce the fever. Homeopathic doctors as well as alternative medicine has been making that claim for years. High fevers have to be reduced but not low fevers. Guest guest
Thank you. We have been. He is doing so much better! He still has the foul smelling poops but everything else (fever, vomiting, dehydration, listlessness, lack of appetite) is gone. We will continue to watch him. And I'm getting my kefir back up and and running since that will also help. I haven't been told if this was rotovirus or not. I suspect I'll never know because they couldn't get enough of a stool sample to do tests. His stools were so clear liquid that just soaked right into those disposable diapers. Thank you for sharing. And for your concern. I thought I'd update since he's really doing so much better. > > Please observe your son carefully. Kefir is better than kombycha for > something of this nature.
