Guest guest
Kristi, I don't have that problem (!), but something that can slow things down is to take naproxen, a very high dose, from the day before your period until it ends. The usual dose is 500mg three times each day. That has a very strong anti-prostaglandin effect which slows the flow. I used to have to do this (fibroid tumor). Guest guest
Kristi, I don't know about this as related to your weight loss but I will speak from my experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse. With all the changes that are going on in your body, I am sure your hormones are also trying to adjust themselves to the new healtier you. To have long periods is not uncommon when people have been as irregular as you have been. Remember that the sluffing off of your uterine lining is a good thing..and since you haven't had periods for years, it does not suprise me a bit that you are having such changes. I would not worry about it unless a few things occur, you saturate (and I mean soak it good) more then a heavy duty pad an hour, you being to become dizzy when you stand up, have serious fatigue, become pale, or if the discharge changes in color and odor with some sort of fever (greater then 100.5 is our standard). Marta makes an excellent suggestion..as she would cuz she's the doc off the group. If the patch doesn't work for you, you still have other options. Keep in touch with your PCP and I'm sure you can find a more comfortable alternative for you. I know how hard it is to live with this pain and under these conditions....it may take several months for your body to work itself out...or for you to find a treatment that works better. Give the patch a try for a few months and definately the Naproxen. One thing to note also..blood is so easily spread around and dense in nature and a little bit looks like a LOT. A little bit in a toilet can taint the color enough to scare most people. I hope this helps at least you feel a bit better and takes some of the anxiety away. Maybe some DS'ers have been in your shoes already and can help. Just my thoughts. In the meantime, from me to you {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGSSSSSSSS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Man I hate cramps!
