Guest guest
I have a 4 year-old son who has HFA. I need to get him into an ABA program. I don't have any idea where to start. We live in the Clear Lake area so I'm looking for a program in Clear Lake/Houston. Can anyone direct me to anyone who does ABA? Does insurance usually cover this? I'm at a loss here and I need to move quickly. Any information is greatly appreciated. Pam
Guest guest
Pam, There may be a school in the Houston area that specializes in ABA , I don't know of one. I am in Arlington. But there is a parent's group that advocates for ABA located at http://www.feathouston.org/ <http://www.feathouston.org/> . They are parents living in the Houston area. They may can direct you to resources to help you in the Houston area. Unfortunately, these types of schools are few and far between. What most parents do is set up ABA programs in their own homes. You hire the therapists yourself, bring in a consultant to train you and your new therapists and run a program yourself (with guidance). Another good website to learn about doing this is the Dallas/Ft Worth FEAT-NT website at http://www.featnt.org/ <http://www.featnt.org/> We set up a program in our home to treat our son using ABA and Dietary treatment and we have had much success. You can read my son's story here: http://www.autismtreatment.info/info//Dogs_Out.htm <http://www.autismtreatment.info/info//Dogs_Out.htm> Good Luck, J. P. Guest guest
Thank you for the information. I will check out the websites. I did find out today our insurance covers ABA on a case-by-case basis so I at least have hope some of this will be paid for. We certainly cannot afford it on our own. Guest guest
We have United Healthcare for medical but the mental health portion is covered by UBH. (United Behavioral Health). I've never used it before but I was told when I called that it is handled on a case-by-case basis. My husband works for a utility company and they are self-insured. Guest guest
That would be great if you could get it covered, definitely pursue that. Most insurance companies balk and paying for it (ABA). J. Guest guest
My problem now is finding a therapist that doesn't do a full program like the Shape of Behavior, etc. I'm looking for something several hours a week. I have to find someone on the plan to do it. I'll be calling the insurance company for more information. Pam ABA in Clear Lake/Houston > > > I have a 4 year-old son who has HFA.
