I will say this: In protest of your recent " gag " regarding mental illness and the need for psychiatric treatment, I have sent the following email to EVERY sponsor I can find of your station and your show. I am also urging everyone I know to boycott you and your financial sponsors/advertisers(ees). Have a Great Day ! Stuart-Browne To Whom It May Concern; As an advertiser buying time from radio station 105.3, have you stopped to listen to what you are supporting? My husband came home the other day and reported that the hotspot DJ- Russ has started an new " gag " that focuses on calling local psychiatric hospital and talking to patients. He starts out empathetic and sincere but ends up ridiculing them and their mental illnesses. I find this totally unaaceptable and completely barbaric. Mental Illness is a Medical Illness. I am sure that if he called the local Cancer Treatment Center and attempted to make fun of the patients and their chemo treatments, the station and its listeners would find it unacceptable. My son fights the stigma of mental illness everyday. He does not need radio personalities perpetuating an incorrect stereotype of the " nuts " in the " nuthouse " . Psychiatric hospitals are Treatment Centers to help people get well, no more - no less. Let's call it what it is and educate the listening public; Not continue incorrect stereotypes. As a sponsor of Russ 's show and a business that deals with the public everyday, I challenge you. I challenge you to call him on his lunacy and lack of respect for people with disabilities. I challenge this company to use its clout in the community to RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND ITS TREATMENTS. I challenge this company to take its advertising dollars elsewhere if need be, to make its point. I know I will be taking my business elsewhere if you can't ( truly disappointing since I drive a 10 year old van without A/C ). If you would like more information about mental illness and its treatments, education or advocacy....Please contact me or: North Central Texas Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health (NCTFFCMH) Website: http://pages.ivillage.com/nctffcmh/index.html NCTFFCMH Email: nctffcmh.tx@... Thank You for your consideration in this matter. Stuart-Browne (NCTFFCMH<Parent Partner- Tarrant County>) Home- 817-483-0641
