Guest guest
What pressures are your group currently putting on the State of Georgia's Board of Education to put appropriate systems in place for children with autism? What does your group consider the least acceptable standards? Most acceptable? Have they been made aware that this is an immediate need, due to the pandemic nature of autism at the moment? I'm one little person that cannot acheive anything without a group. But I am so sick over the whole thing, i'm ready to actively protest. If i do that alone, they will likely lock me away in a white jumper:0). What is your group doing that parents like me could actively be involved in? Guest guest
In answer to your question about specifics for Autism , The Arc of Georgia is currently working on our Public Policy Agenda for 2005. One of the biggest challenges that I see that is so desperately needed in Georgia is to revise the Special Education funding formula to eliminate incentives to segregate students with disabilities. Our current formula and weights incentivize this segregation and do not incentivize inclusion. The value that is placed on people with disabilities is in direct correlation with where the money is spent or directed . So this , to me, seems like the fist step in changing classroom situations for any type of disability and make sure that the principles of IDEA are incorporated into all Educational settings, regardless of what the disability may be.
