With my experience with SSI, they consider the gross income, assets

(car, savings, Certificates of Deposit, etc.) child support, and more.

Unfortunately, you cannot have money in the bank, a second car over a

certain amount, and heavens forbid you have a teenager that works. That

will count against you as well.

And I am not sure that anyone can help with the private insurance

copays. If you want to contact me offline, I can get some info from you

and try to find some assistance for you in your area.

Hugs,

Amy

How much is your income? We are allowed $3000.00 in assets. But our income is

low.

Wow that is crazy, We have a family of five and our income is 2600 a month.

We have no bank account but when we bought our second car a few months ago I

called to find out how much I could spand on a car before it became over the

asset limti, they said $3000. but tht anything you owed on the car would not be

counted as an asset.

You will be denied if you have resources of over $2000 and the value of

the second car has to be below a certain amount but don't recall what

that is.

Both my boys were denied because of the $2000 in resources just within

the last month.

Our income is $0.00. My husband was laid off last October and now the

unemployment has run out. But each of my kiddos has a certificate of

deposit (CD) worth about $1400.00 yet they do not mature until late

August so we can't touch them. But that amount added to what we have in

the bank to live on and the value of my second car put us over. For my

oldest son (18) they counted what he is saving in the bank for a car

from his paychecks so that along with his CD kicked him out.

How many in your family? That also will determine was you are allowed

asset wise. There are 5 of us but with my oldest being 18, full time

student, yet holding down a job - that worked against us. And on top of

that - our insurance company paid us for a claim for a new roof due to

hail damage and another claim for being hit by an uninsured motorist.

They considered that income. Go figure.

During my phone interview yesterday I was quoted a total monthly

amount of $2887 for a family of 3. If we get it now, we won't later

when/if I go back to work...I am checking into a waiver; anyone have

any experience with it?

The Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) is a tool that you can use to

find out if you could be eligible for benefits from any of the programs

Social Security administers. This tool will give you eligibility information

based on answers you give to the questions on the following pages; however,

BEST is not an application for benefits and:

That's jacked up! I have a decent amount in my 401K, and it is

100% vested, but that doesn't mean that I can take the money out

and use it like a savings account without costing me a LOT of

money down the road! I don't think I'll bother w/ SSI. Seems

like just another path to frustration.

Well, I have to agree! The other thing that is jacked up is the new

tax break that just shoved us over the max limit for SSI!! We were

very close anyway and that's why I was asking about gross/net. I

think I will be cancelling my Tues appt and figuring out other means.

What a catch21!!! Welcome to America! :)hehe
