There will be NO new slots in the CLASS program for the next 2 years

regardless of whether someone moves or dies. The slots will be removed by

atrition. I think CLASS is a Godsend. We have to be responsible for

getting good attendants and we have always had great ones. I would suggest

getting on the list but it may never get shorter. The client directed

services option gives the client and family the option to monitor their

budget but it does take more responsibility.

We need to continue to fight for places in the waiver programs.

CLASS is a Medicade waiver program that offers individuals with disabilities

supports to enable them to live as independently as possible in the

community. If the individual is under 18, the families income is still not

considered. This is through the Dept Of Human Services. MHMR also has a

waiver program. These programs pay for attendant services , adaptive aids,

minor home modifications, therapies, etc. They are great programs and have

allowed many to remain living in the community. The waitlists are growing

but I would still suggest getting on them

Excuse me, but what is this CLASS list? Should I get my son on

it, or has anyone actually ever made it to the end of the

waiting list?

Blessings,

:-/

Hi, I'm moving to the Dallas area shortly and was wondering what CLASS is? We

don't have anything called that here in GA. Thx,

Re: CLASS List

FYI...My children were on the waiting list for 8 years. At year 7 we were

supposedly #300 on a list of 700+ from our county ALONE...then I wrote a

letter of complaint to the state Board that oversees the CLASS program

encouraging them to open more slots (not a very nice letter, I am

afraid!)...then, within 2 months, voila! We were at the top of the list.

Amazing, isn't it? Wonder what happened to those other 300 + people? I know

CLASS doesn't open that many slots each year, and I doubt they all moved.

Wonder if they all got magically lost, or if because I complained we got

moved up? Who knows!

One thing I do know...My kids qualified last September, and they haven't

gotten SQUAT so far...so don't hold your breath. It depends on the providers

in your area, because it is apparent yet again that the state does not hold

any providers accountable in this program, either.

On another topic...I was just told by someone in the know that the new

consolidation of social service agencies from 22 to 4 eliminates the

Interagency Council on Autism and Other PDD's. Does anyone know if this is

true?
