I'm back in action..... took awhile to heal... but the broken neck is

now unbroken. Darnit.. I really liked using that as an excuse !

Mike...

So Often Parents will email me with the same problem although it may

be a different 'situation'. They KNOW what their child needs.

Parents that call me KNOW EXACTLY what their child needs or have a

good idea - it's too bad school district administrators didn't spend

more time listening to parents and less time trying to figure out how

to pay the attorneys they end up paying when they DON'T LISTEN !!

My newest approach (after almost a decade lobbying and

advocating Nationally) is to try to find the Administrators that

will 'cough' up a program ....then... we SPREAD the word so that

others in the community with similar needs may get a similar program

for their child. I have a child with a very intense program...of

course it took me taking his district to due process 4 times (settled

all 4 like usual with almost all cases - very few are actually heard).

Anyway, I have found it alot more effective to work with parental

groups vs. individual parents as there is a 'parent base' that

generally have children in the same schools. This allows us to

examine the treatment of one child in comparison to the next within

that area and see if the district is 'pulling the wool' over the eyes

of a parent that doesn't quite know all the ropes yet in this very

" Tarzan Like " game of fighting for Free and Appropriate Educations

for our children.

As more and more parents get involved and help each other - we

slowly wean out the need for expensive attorneys we can't afford. I

could afford it in 96 when I started the Office of Advocacy for

Autistic/Disabled Children - but it was the point of it. Why should

I pay out 5 grand to some guy that knows nothing of Autism and

nothing about the people I'm going against. I tried a local

advocate and basically just stole the show and spoke over the

advocate...excusing him before it was over as he had nothing really

to say and wasn't backing me up. It took yet another due process to

get my son the program he needed - I made a huge stink about it and

it got in the papers. I went from Lobbying in my county to across my

state and then the Nation.... Eventually ending up Registered as a

U.S. Civil Rights Lobbyist in D.C., CA., and with the Dept. of Def. .

I have kept my lobbying interest defined solely to ASD's and the help

WE as parents need. I've worked hard to keep parents from spending a

ton of money they can't afford on attorneys that generally don't have

the knowledge (I'm definately not speaking about Pete ,Esquire

or others like Jeff Sell, etc. !!!!) or the TIME to actually help

parents the way they need it. Not JUST Advocacy and Lobbying combined

(my speciality)...but Moral support. Something that all of

us...including myself (hard to believe for some) NEED. We are ONE

UNIT.... and need to consolidate into ONE centralized unit although

maintaining local support groups. By using one umbrella we can make

a HUGE STANCE. WE can SPEAK by the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS and

growing. We can SPEAK as those effected or affected by an ACTUAL

EPIDEMIC that not even the U.S. Dept. of Education can deny. Nobody

can. I know this simply... I started in 96... the rate of

prevalance was about 4 per 10,000 children....... WHATS UP with 1 in

125 ???? I think our Nation needs to stop nitpicking at peanut issues

and start looking toward the future......our children... and

especially towards the COST of THAT future to this country and to the

parents and caregivers that hang in there because they love the

individual .... the Individual is their blood or someone they've

cared for... The Individual generally NEVER goes through his/her

education with a PROPER INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN.

If you think you're having problems with yours or if you think your

child deserves more.... Contact us at this email address of

Peaceforkids2005@... and tell us your story. We take out

names unless its authorized.... and we send those exact stories to

YOUR state legislators and U.S. Senators/U.S. Congressmen for YOUR

district where you live.... along with our 'opinion' of what is going

on. If you want to take the bull by the horns... we don't take

ANYTHING out of your 'story' and tell the Senator/Congressmen to

contact us regarding this situation. Almost ALL do !!! So many

people complain but NOT to the right people. NO U.S. Senator wants

his 'district' in shambles or in a state of 'negative media'

regarding such services as education. Education is a huge issue

accros the country and U.S. Senators will bear down HARD on the state

senators where they are from if there are complaints. This way....

there is NO concern of any 'retaliation' (Although after the

600,000.00 judgement in the favor of the parents in the FL. case for

retaliation after 30 mins. of missed speach therapy has brightened

many dim bulbs in the field of Administration of Education). I

generally handle a case by trying to Civily work it out while I

prepare and actually DO attack from the very top down if the case is

bad enough....for example... the child is out of school...the school

won't provide an appropriate education...or there has been an injury

or removal of the child.... In cases such as this I work

aggressively to STOP local action and as well work from the 'Top

Down' bringing on HEAVY HEAT to the non compliars through the use of

pressure on the legislators that may or may not get re-elected in

your district based on things like EDUCATION ! The schools get down

and dirty with some of the things they do.... So, They have to deal

with an aggressive 'will not take no for an answer' person or they

think they can run you over. DO NOT get ran over....it's your

child's future. Free Online Advocacy .....just Email us. We also

do Teleconference Advocacy and soon back to in person advocacy

Nationwide.
