I also question the nail polish. Nail polish is full of chemicals that most asd children should stay away from. Why don't you call your son's doctor and ask him what might get him to stop. I'd also ask if a zinc deficiency could be the cause. My son was grinding down his teeth and I increased his zinc which has helped him and now I don't hear him at night. Get copies and see if the zinc is low, also check the EFA level (essential fatty acid). I believe the zinc from <A HREF= " www.kirkmanlabs.com " >www.kirkmanlabs.com</A> says a dose for a 3 year old is 1/4 tsp (it has been a while since my son was 3). I don't know what Peptamin Jr. is, so definitely ask your doctor about adding a supplement; but also research it and ask the doc. To me all that biting and chewing is an indication that he is searching for something that he is not getting. I could be wrong, because children that are mentally very young (and I don't mean to imply that your child is, just things I questioned about my own child) would lick and chew things in the environment because that is their way of learning. For a while I also thought that my sons teeth grinding was caused by seizures but the EEG never caught it. I had no choice but to put my children on meds at 2 and 3 because they had very violent episodes. They were both so aggressive self mutilating and destructive. He shows that he wants to, but the doc has said no food or drink (other than water) but even if I do slip up and give him small portions (chips or something) he (most of the time) just can't quite get it together to eat it. My son used to chew and lick everything and I know some of them were toxic. I really think all the supplements have helped him stop this behavior. I hope you find a good organic strip of leather so when he swallows, he won't be swallowing leather moisturizers and such. I tend to think most leather is chemically treated. I agree with you that most doctors would rather give a prescription to stop the chewing rather than find out why he is doing it in the first place. Sometimes I realize that this may be necessary but please don't stop looking for an explantion as to why this behavior is occuring. You are welcome I do hope this helps to make your decision easier. I believe medication should be only for the severe if they are severe it make take alot but you can handle them at least with help but when your child has severe problems that can endanger his or her self as well as others and so on then yep it's time for meds. The biting has to drive you nuts at least here's not biting his arms also if he is mature enough since he has the biting stim give him bubble gum if not chew toys will work but get the hard rubber ones and offer this every time he bites his tube after a while he will mostlikely perfer the ring.
