Guest guest
-- Hoping that someone with more experience will have time to step in here, as I am still new at this myself. From what I understand, the discoloration between cultures can be tannins from the tea and something that I have found with my own is that if a scoby that has been along the bottom decides to come up, yeast squigglies under the top scoby will get caught between the two, and that can cause discoloration. I've read from more than one source that mold will appear only on the top; at the same time, I don't remember whether or not I've read that absolutely no mold will grow between cultures. The Happy Herbalist website has several photos of cultures: some with mold; some that look unlike the perfect culture you may have received, but are okay, nevertheless; some that are questionable; and some that are definitely not good. Hoping everything is okay with your culture! Lois > > My second batch of Kombucha has been in the jar for several days, but > there seems to be some discoloration between the two cultures.
