Family needs advice

Hi everyone. I have been contacted by a family who needs some guidance. I really need some help from you guys. The child who needs medical assistance does not have a developmental delay so I am not sure about where to refer this family for help. The mother had chicken pox while pregnant and the little girl can't swallow. She has had pneumonia numerous times and has breathing issues. The family has been in touch with a hospital in Cincinnati. There is a doctor at this hospital who wants to assess the child: he feels he may be able to dramatically help the child. According to the mother, "Georgia won't pay for the medical treatment in Ohio." I am supposed to meet with the mother later in the week to see if I can offer some helpful advice. I am trying to do my homework now. Can anyone please give me some ideas about how to guide this young mother?

They can set up a payment plan with the Dr in OH, or they can see someone of the same caliber in GA.

My husband works 3 jobs, so that we do not face this dilemma, plus pay for ST that our insurance does not cover- they can always do that too.

Although I can't offer you advise on this situation I do have a

comment. If this family is going to see Dr. Cotton and the airo

digestive team at Cincinnatti Childrens please tell them they are in

great hands. The entire team of doctors are wonderful and their

staff is great with the kids. We went their a couple of years ago

and to this day say prayers of thanks for going.

Isn't there a doctor in Georgia that can perform this assessment? Georgia

Medicaid will not pay for treatments outside of Georgia UNLESS that service is

unavailable in our state.
