Guest guest
Actually, I thought I read that food grade was safe. I read in a Lyme group that you should not reuse water bottles (don't know about anything else), because they were specifically made for one time use. I don't have a link or anything to back that up, it's just what someone had posted. jan > > Actually, how much can it leach from food grade plastics? > I am using club soda bottles for my secondary ferment. But that's just me. I can be very gullible so, I've learned the hard way. My single serving water bottles, what few i have go through the dishwasher for a really good wash before i reuse them. Ditto the caps. I am surrounded by food grade plastic what with Brita water pitcher, the occasional salad bought to go, plastic pitchers, mayo in plastic jar. Food grade plastic doesn't worry me. I have to admit, I am thinking of dumping all my KT into a pitcher(pastic, all I have) as one pitcher will take up less space in my frig than a doz smaller bottles and jars. -- - May the Holy Spirit dance in our hearts! Guest guest
Yes, I saw a short piece on TV that was emphasizing not reusing water bottles. Their big hype was that they are not sterilized and the bacteria can build up. I considered it baloney. Number one, I am not afraid of a little bacteria, number two, Wash the darned things if you are so worried! <chuckling!> One time use? Do they explode or what? Guest guest
And after my recent Kaboom explosion and Ed's comments about using plastic, I am testing plastic for my secondary ferment. I am using the one-gallon jugs that my distilled water comes in, and I have two in secondary ferment right now. If we can bottle in food-grade plastic, and I know many who do, then why not use it for the secondary ferment. When it is done, I will pour it into bottles, straining out the blueberries and the jasmine blossoms. I can see no harm to doing this, and it is fermenting because I have burped the bottles, and they gave huge sighs of relief. I figure the brew will be in plastic for no more than four days, and it appears to me that it will be only three days. Then I will bottle it and put the bottles in the fridge. The bottles are EZ-Cap glass bottles. I have grandchildren and I have dogs: Ed's caution about not having something with the potential to explode and cause bodily harm hit home. -- Joyce www.jubileeaires.com IACP P-1834 Carolyn returns to Dallas: Freestyle Seminar December 8 & 9.
