Re: Smelly Socks Brew

I'm little more than a beginner myself and, bearing in mind my own socks, not

qualified to comment on the smell .

However, I can tell you, from other posts, and personal experience, that there

are most emphatically different growth rates.

They say that a Hibiscus rich brew, for instance grows a marvelous SCOBY also of

a beautiful hue. This I have experienced. While e brew of Tbags containing 63.5%

Fairtrade Green tea and the rest peppermint leaf yields a very s l o w

SCOBY which I could probably read a newspaper through on day 4.

BTW I'm famous for being the nutter who brewed " Coffeebucha " ... Quite nice

actually very like cold, unsweetened clack coffee. Loved it!! and this from a

bloke who's had a lifetime (65Y) of sweetened milky coffee. It also grows a

slightly less lazy, but far from beautiful SCOBY.

Quick summary, wish it was more Summery.

If you can stand the smell, take a very genlte taste. I had one which the smell

of dispersed when open a couple of minutes to air.

The speed of growth and appearance seems to matter an awful lot less than

whether or not it's mould free and whether or not the drinkers like it.

Hi Lois,

I've been thinking about you.

I just wanted to say that my brews don't smell very nice (not like

dirty socks,can't figure out what it smells like), but taste fine.

Still too sweet, scobies growing nicely and is bubbly.

Did you check out The Balancing Act? I know there is info about not

enough fizz.
