,60 Hz activity, when it is " by itself " is often a measure of quality of hookup.  When it is very high relative to the rest of the power spectrum, it's almost always an issue of poor impedances/bad scalp connections.  You've obviously ruled that out with your impedance testing.

If levels of 60 Hz are within the range of the other amplitudes in the EEG and you don't have impedance problems, it's not a big thing.  Remember that we don't actually measure anything anywhere near there with the filters in the assessment or training designs.  What you need to watch for is usually clear in the power spectrum.  If you see regular spikes up and down the EEG (for example, at 22, 35, and 50 Hz), that is a seriously bad signal.

Otherwise what you are describing doesn't sound like a problem.  Obviously if there are surges not just at 60 but in a wide band of frequencies, that would potentially by muscle tension, and you'd want to try to reduce it.

Hello listmates,

I recently did an assessment on a 61 year old woman. I was getting 60 hz surges and figure it was related to some type of electrical interference. tried moving the QDS Focus amp around but it didn't help. So I moved to another room which seemed to help, that is for a while. Then the 60hz surging returned...it was more so on the right side than the left. I checked the impedences and they were 5k or less, but I continued to get the 60hz surges. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Would the surges ( they ran lower than in the the firt room and were only about 5 to 10 uv) significantly affect the assessment? Any help would be appreciated.
