Additional Facial wasting treatments for persons with Bio-Alcamid implants - risk of infection?

I have been reading with interest the reports of persons with Bio-Alcamid developing infections.

I have Bio-Alcamid implants that have never given me any trouble in terms of infection or migration, but find myself wanting some additional facial filler. I had decided to consider silicone microdroplet injections, since the amount of fill required is relatively small, and would prefer to have the work done near my home in San Francisco. I called the one doctor recommended to me in San Francisco who does silicone microdroplet injections, Dr. Gaetano Zanelli, as well as Dr. in LA, who pioneered the technique, and neither doctor is willing to do injections on me, presumably because of the risk of infection. I didn't speak to the doctors, but just the office staff, who relayed my question to the doctor, as I didn't want to pay for a visit if the doctor was simply going to tell me he wouldn't do the injections. Does anyone know a doctor who they would recommend who would perform silicone microdroplet injections on a person

with stable Bio-Alacamid implants?

Apparently (based on reports on this list), Dr. Casavantes, who did my Bio-Alcamid injections, does PMMA injections for persons with Bio--Alcamid implants, as does Dr. Serra in Brazil. My question is (and I'm hoping that Al, who is in contact with Dr. Casavantes, and , who is in touch with Dr. Serra, will provide answers), what measures do those doctors take to ensure that the Bio-Alcamid implants don't become infected? Have they had patients with Bio-Alcamid with no history of infections develp infections after PMMA injections? If so, how many, out of what number of patients with pre-existing stable Bio-Alcamid implants?

Any others of you care to comment on the risk of Bio-Alcamid implants becoming infected from subsequent treatments?

I'm not sure that the reservations of practitioners to inject on top of bioalcamid are as much due to a fear of infections as a fear of litigation.JBOn Dec 20, 2007, at 5:36 PM, R. wrote:I have been reading with interest the reports of persons with Bio-Alcamid developing infections. Everyone that I know so far that has had infections in their

BioAlcamid pockets had PMMA or silicone touch ups done on top of it.

Once you puncture that " pocket " , the risk of introducing bugs in it

is huge, so I would not mess with it if I was you. I am not syaiing

that there is 100% certainty that it would occur (I also know people

who have got touch ups and have not had a problem).

We need to be very careful. Once BioAlcamid gets infected, there is

fibrosis and hardening of the are, even if a lot of it can be

extracted. I am trying to get a lump out of my face soon. Dr

Casavantes was able to extract 0.3 cc's but it is now bigger and

harder than before. I am going to see Dr in Houston who has

successfully removed BA from the inside of the mouth. He is a plastic

surgeon. I just saw JJ's face and he looks great (he got the

procedure done with Dr ).

I think trying to push a viscous substance through a 16 gauge hole is

not very effective and can cause more trauma of the site that can

lead to fibrosis.

Some of us need to find peace with our looks and stop taking any more

risks. Lipoatrophy and aging take their toll. If you have had work

done and you look acceptable, stop there and take no more risks.
