Leona,

I live in Las Vegas and it gets very hot here in the summer but winters are

beautiful most of the time and it actually can get fairly cold. It even

snows here in the " high " desert. Today we had a near record rainfall and

flooding.

Naturally, I'd love to see an AIH convention here, but that's because I'd

be afraid that I wouldn't be able to afford to go someplace else or that

other things would get in the way. There's lots to see and do but most of

us aren't physically up to night life and partying, which is mostly what

this city is all about. We do have a ski area just 45 minutes out of town

and it's beautiful in the winter.

I haven't been in Minnesota for many years but it's a beautiful, green

state. Very cold in the winter, though. The Mayo Clinic is one of the top

medical centers in the US and it's proximity would undoubtedly be

beneficial for a convention of this sort. The main advantage Las Vegas has

is that many speakers might be willing to come here because it's a primary

convention city. Also, it's possible to get some very good group rates for

hotels and other perks, like free meals. In fact, we live here and we get

them in the mail all of the time and hand them out to friends and family.

But, it's not centrally located and would be an expensive trip for people

in other parts of the US. There are several internationaal airlines making

non-stop flights here now, by the way, but none from Australia that I've

heard about. Also, there's a new Las Vegas based airline (National) that

advertises exceptional service, more comfortable seating and full meals vs.

snacks. The RT fare to and from NY is only $355.00 or less. However, they

only fly to and from JFK in NY, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and San

Francisco at this time. All of their flights are non-stop.

I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't be able to attend a

convention out of town no matter where it is, in October. That's too soon

for me and my grandson is returning from 6 months in Africa that month, so

we have to be here for him.

Take care,

Geri

In my opinion I would find las vegas a good location

for the convention. Im sure others will agree with me,

the convention would not be the same if you werent

there. You are a compassionate person, with a good

source of information, and it would be a shame if you

couldnt go. I guess what im saying is that one of the

benefits of going to las vegas for the convention

would be meeting you.

Well, theres one vote for LV

Or, you could all come over to our house and watch the ducks swimming in

Geri,

You did not say if you normally have ducks in your back yard. Were you

flooded too?

,

Nope, we don't normally have ducks in the backyard. Our house backs on a

golf course and there are a couple of ponds and some large trees where the

ducks hang out. However, we pamper them and keep huge bags of bird seed

and sunflower seeds for them, so they're never far from our house. When

the rain stopped, there was a small lake behind the house, but not in our

yard (and a rushing river between our house and the one next door) and the

ducks were delighted to discover that their golf course had become a lake.

It's slightly more elevated and hilly out here in Lone Mountain, where we

live, so there weren't many flooding problems. Also, the ground has been

cultivated longer so will absorb water better. Believe it or not, the

golfers were back on the course the day after the big rain.

Sue, is there any chance that AIH is a genetic, run in the family type thing?

I guess as Geri says that it is the autoimmune that is hereditary. My sister

has Ulcerative colitis. The other people in my family has no signs of

anything like what we have.

Hi Sue,

Glad to hear that. I thought there was some new information out there that I

had missed. We have quite a bit of autoimmune illness on both sides of our

family. I am the only one with liver involvement. I really didn't want to

think that my daughter would inherit this mess!

That sounds like so much fun Sue. I've barely been out of Florida much less

the country. LOL Have a great time and forget about AIH while your away.

Hi Sue: You sure have been blessed then. Jodi's infections are coming

closer and closer together. She has been in the hospital twice in the last

six weeks. She went back to work last Monday and her doctor told her to wear

a mask all of the time since she works for a children's dentist.

Hope you feel better soon. It would be wise for you to call your doctor

and just let them know but if your running a low grade temperature he will

want to see you I bet.

Take care and God bless, Genny/Jodi's Mom

Happy Easter
