Guest guest
I was just watching a show about hurricanes. The scientists have learned that as a hurricane passes over land that it creates a kind of turbulance with low level air. This has the effect up pulling down sheets of high energy wind from up high in the storm, often several kilometers worth, which will then slam down and create localized streaks or damage. If you remember my posts on Hurricane Isabell, I pointed out that the winds felt different. They felt like they had mass to them. This explains it. I knew I wasn't imagining it. One of my foresters hypothesized this as well after Hurricane Ivan. They could see where the winds did little damage here, but a great swath there and little on the other side. His idea was very close to the what the scientists have found. Maybe they should get out in the field more and away from the computers now and then.
