Negative Outcomes with Neurofeedback

In my quest to have a very complete picture of both the good and the bad

outcomes associated with NFB, I would like to know of any cases that have

resulted in negative outcomes, and what the circumstances/hardware/protocols

were in those cases. For the most part, NFB appears to be pretty benevolent, but

I have heard some cases where things have gone irrevocably wrong.

What cases have you heard of or directly experienced that have had a negative

outcome, and why did such an outcome happen? Out of curiosity, has anyone heard

of any negative experiences with NeurOptimal. I know they list possible side

effects from treatment.

I went through the various reviews of NFB on a site called revolutionhealth.com,

and while most were positive, I found some interesting responses:

One person with supposed Generalized Anxiety Disorder posted the same comment

several times, obviously disturbed enough to come back at various times to warn

people of the same thing. While I take what I see on the Internet with a grain

of salt, I just thought I'd share this with you:

" eeg neurofeedback training is very dangerous. I am worse then ever after going

for 40 sessions. My head is numb all over intermiddently.. I have severe impulse

control problems now. I am angry as hell over what this did to me. I am

regretting ever going for this. The clinicians will tell you there is no side

effects. That is an outrageous lie. Playing with your brainwaves is very

dangerous. And the LENS protocol is even more dangerous. After Lens I was angry,

irritable, severely impulse control disordered and ready to kill myself. If you

have any brain symptoms do not do this treatment for them. It needs to be

regulated by the state "

The two negative outcomes I read in the various reviews mentioned the LENS

protocol.

As a newcomer to this, I would like to know how to avoid problems. I learned as

a hand therapist that developing the best approach often comes after years of

trial and error and constant reading. I would like to learn from the collective

experience here so that I don't make the same mistake.

If you wish to remain anonymous for whatever reason, please feel free to send me

a private email and I will respect your privacy and will not share it with

anyone... or you can simply say that someone else performed a procedure and you

later heard about the results.

I look forward to your responses!
