Guest guest
After doing a ton of reading on PANDA and witnessing the symptoms in my son...I truly believe kids are at risk for PANDA. The whole theory behind PANDA is that when a child gets Strep their bodies immune defenses go on overdrive . Some Doctors think that the bodies attack against the Strep bacteria also attacks part of the brain. Why wouldn't this be true for kids as well? kids are on FIRE every month...their lymph nodes swell up...etc. I wish it wasn't true...but even though my son doesn't fever anymore due to a successful T & A.... I'm seeing battle wounds from , in the form of OCD, stutters, facial spasms, hyperactivity, disobedient behavior, obsessive thoughts, frustration when things don't go his way. His teacher said he is one of the smartest kids in her class...and he excels in Sports...so not all was harmed in his wonderful personality. I really think Doctors need to take a closer look at and PANDA. Maybe is a form of Strep that hasn't been discovered yet??? That's why kids get a negative culture when tested for it. Over the years many discoveries have been made about Strep and Rheumatic Fever; including the fact that Strep comes in different strains. I think there is much more research needed to be done, so our kids can get the help they deserve!!! If a Doctor is reading this...please let me know if I'm on to something here!!!!! And if other parents are noticing signs of PANDA....please speak up!!! Amy
Guest guest
Hi Amy, How long was your child sick prior to the T & A? I ask this because I FIRMLY believe is not " harmless " as some doctors say. This is why I opted for very speedy surgery a week after 's second birthday. I just do not believe that the chronic illness does not wear heavily on these kids bodies and minds. Unlike most people, surgery was our first line od treatment because I wanted thse rotten tonsils out, as I think they are the cause of and many other unknown problems. My son does not show any OCD or behavior issues, he actually is a dream child, but I wonder if it is because he only suffered 14mos before surgery and has been fever free since.
