Thus... no public freedom of individual conscience, in order to preserve " freedom " ? , what you have written here is among the most astonishingly bald-faced reunciations of the Bill of Rights, the idea of civil freedom, AND the religious concept of essential human freedom to seek or reject God and his ways, that I have ever seen. Your concept of society is not only anti-social, but anti-religious, and grossly arrogant in the implication that you or any other human being posesses and has the right to judge others' practice of the correct " baseline moral and ethical code " to which all must hew. I'm assuming here that you are an atheist with a grossly inflated sense of his own goodness, because NO faithful religious believer would ever seek to put himself in God's place in the way you're proposing, and to place himself as an intermediary between individual conscience and God, or even setting government in God's place as the one responsible to " lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. " I'm a Christian, and to those of us who are religious, what you are suggesting is profoundly disturbing and wrong. And whether one is religious or not, what you are proposing is totalitarian and goes far beyond any reasonable interest of republican civil government. God bless the ACLU for standing up for human freedom against people who think like you, !
