Hi everyone,

Ally had her surgery on monday.Everything went well and the dr said

that her tonsils were enlarged but that was all. My question is today

she has been throwing up, I think that she is having mucus draining

into her stomach and that may be the cause has anyone else had this

expirience with vomiting a couple days after surgery? thank you!

sincerely,

Francesca

Hi Francesca..my son Mikey had his T & A on the 10th of

this month and although he didn't have the vomiting

issue, the doc and nurses said that if he did it was

completely normal. Yes, the mucous can cause an upset

stomach and even the left over anesthesia in the body

can have that affect sometimes. What is important to

look for though is if there is a lot of blood in the

vomit...more than a teaspoon, and dehydration. The doc

told us that a good way to make sure that he was

hydrated was to check the color of his urine. The

whiter it was, the better hydrated he was....if it

gets too dark yellow you know she needs more fluids.

I also had Mikey sleep in my bed every night so that

I could keep his head elevated...he had a lot of

mucous. I used a humidifier in the room to keep his

throat from getting dry and the mucous loose. Try and

keep her throat moist too after the mucous

subsides...that will help her from getting that

choking sensation due to the healing of the scabs. If

you have any concerns though you should definitely

call your doc. I know we needed to use the pain meds

for at least a good week. The second week has so far

been great and he's even back to eating soft solids.

Not sure what your lil one likes but we were able to

get Mikey to drink lots of Gatorade, other juices,

pediasure, chicken noodle soup, mac n cheese, pudding,

Popsicles, yogurt drinks...I even made smoothies with

veggies and chocolate ice cream. He never knew the

veggies were in there. I hope this helps.

Good Luck, Jenn (Spring Hill, FL)
