Guest guest
Hey guys, I have been away because I got really bad again. I want to vent to you guys for a minute and get your opinion on how to handle this situation. I have been getting worse and worse for days but waited until yesterday morning to call my ruem about pain. I started leaving messages at 8:30am with his nurse. By noon the pain was really bad so we called back (nicely) and were told they were double booked all day and he would call as soon as he came out of the exam room. At 1pm I called back and was told he would call back in 5 minutes. The pain was so bad I collapsed. I could not walk. I could not see. I was shaking uncontrollably. My husband called back and yelled at the nurse. Anyway we got the pain bearable when the doctor got on the phone and told me what to do. So we go in at 8:30am this morning and see the doc and this nurse is glaring at me the whole time. We start to leave and she follows us out the door into the waiting room and confronts my husband. She waited until the doctor walked away. She said she was just the messenger and we ABUSED her yesterday on the phone. I was floored. I felt my neck starting to swell! Of course my husband went right back in her face again. I started to cry. They had a fight in the lobby! She looked straight at me and said I understand you have a " problem " but I gave him the message. I was on the floor shaking in pain and she classes that as a " problem " I am in a really bad situation here. I like my doctor but this nurse runs his office and life. (he signed me up for Embrel today) I would not want this woman making my hamburger at Mcs much less having control over my health care. And she rules the roost at this office- its a one woman show! I should have called the day before but I didn't want to bother my busy doctor - look where that got me. Anyway, I'm venting. I can not believe how people in the health care proffession can treat sick people. They either don't believe the pain we are in or simply don't care. Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear about the nurse, Have you told your doctor about how you was treated? If he is a caring Doctor he will do something about it. A friend of mine had the same problem, she called and told the nurse she was sick and needed an appointment as soon as possible. They made her appointment for 2:00 and my dear friend died at 12:20. a new kind of hurt > Hey guys, > > I have been away because I got really bad again. Guest guest
Dear , What a terrible couple of days you are having dear. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, especially while in so much pain. You might want to talk to your doctor about it and tell him you are happy with his services but DO NOT and WILL NOT be able to be subjected to such a person especially when ill. If he can't understand you need caring and concern and most of all respect then maybe those are not the people you want to see. I hope your better soon, we are sending much love and understanding to you dear. Till later then, Patty > -OK --You guys are making me feel better. Guest guest
Dear , I agree with Melt, I work in a medical office and there is absolutely no excuse for that kind of treatment. The staff is usually the first impression for a Dr. and it is they who should be the patient advocate for a busy Dr. The proper thing to do would have been to return your call and explain that the Dr. was having an extremely busy day and that he would return your call asap, not in 5min. and then ignore your request. Also she should have told you if you needed immediate attention perhaps the e.r. would be a better option. This is just my opinion and how it would be handled by me, I just know that behavior as you have reported would be cause for reprimand, maybe even dismissal in my office. Do speak with the Dr. about this and I sure hope you will be feeling better soon. Remember, stress is a major trigger. Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry that you and your husband were treated like this and I cannot believe that no one heard this again on the other side of the door. Please sweetie, don't wait next time. I have often worried about my busy rheumy too, but it gets you know where. He is YOUR DOCTOR too, don't worry about his day. He is prescribed to you and this is his job. Never let your pain get out of hand friend. It can do so much more harm than good. I must say that I have also been on the same side of the fence also, but since my rheumy has just changed hospitals, I find myself faxing him with questions, and if he doesn't return calls....I keep faxing him until he calls! It works, and it works for me because I have a fax, but either way, this nurse was very wrong and perhaps you can discuss this in private with your doctor the next time that you see him. You just concentrate on you right now and please get some rest. You sound so uncomfortable and in much pain and please update us when you can when you are feeling better. I too, have been signed up for Enbrel. Be well friend. Love,Sue #2 -- a new kind of hurt Hey guys, I have been away because I got really bad again. Guest guest
, I am sorry for all that you went through. Maybe if you trust your doctor you could talk to him. Maybe he could smooth things out for you. I am sure that if the nurse is just given a little while to cool down she will remember that she is here to help you. We all go on the defensive if we are feeling attact. Maybe that is the way she felt, I am not trying to stick up for her. I have had my share of people who need to be horse whipped. Maybe after a little while your husband could say he is sorry and then she what her reaction is. Maybe she feels bad for what happened and is not so sure how to approch you guys. I wish that there was an easy answer. Hang in there. a new kind of hurt Hey guys, I have been away because I got really bad again.
