Husband's Knee Injury

Norman went in to the doctor today. He has been having problems with his

knee. He injured it when he was in the army. They did surgery back then

but it's still bothered him every since (this must have been about 15+ years

ago). The doctor told him he has arthritis and that the x-ray showed there

was not much cartilage left and he could give him something for the pain and

swelling and another option would be a cortisone injection, which Norman

told him that was totally out of the question. The Dr. also said Norman

would need a knee replacement within 5 years, maybe as soon as 3 months! He

told him after the surgery he would be on crutches for about a year. That

doesn't sound right to me. My mother had both her hips replaced and was not

on crutches that long. Is the knee that much more sensitive??? I also

think that the army should kick in some type of disability. Norman's

brother-in-law was in the army less than 2 years and has received all kinds

of benefits and disability income and I have yet to figure out why? No one

seems to know of any injury. The same with my stepfather. He was only in

the army for a short time and he has received a lot of benefits. Norman was

in the Army for eight years and then a few years in the army reserve. When

he said the Dr. told him he had arthritis, I said " welcome to the club " .
