Guest guest
Oh Lauri! You are in NO WAY a hypochondriac! None of us here are. True, it is very hard to " prove " what we go thru, yet it is very, very real. Remember, about 8 yrs ago they ( " they " meaning the " experts " ) thought that fibromyalgia was all in a person's head--that it really didn't exist; it was supposedly just another excuse for people to complain. Well, it is now one of the most widely known debilitating conditions. At least that's what my disability attorney told me before I went in for my disability hearing. She told me that fibro alone has been recognized as a very legitimate reason for a person to go out on disability. Maybe doctor's need to see us " complaining " more--that just may be what is needed for this condition to become more recognized & treated better. Eventually, people will realize that still's is just as real AND debilitating as fibro, lupus, etc. and that we are not belly-aching for the sake of doing so. And, more importantly, since our immune systems are constantly running amuck, anything that happens to us that is " unusual " has to be treated as though it is life or death. It's better to run to the doc, call the doc or go the ER and find out it is truly " nothing " than to figure " oh, no bid deal " and find out you were wrong. Take care, Chris greywolf70@... Re: Procrastinating! Guilty as charged! With me, I think its the combination of being embarassed if they don't find something wrong and the " what if they find something horrible wrong " I went to my regular doctor today because of my eye being swollen shut (pink eye.. yippee, another medicine to add) and I asked him about the thing with my skin turning blue. He admitted he had no idea what would have caused that and then gave me his rule of thumb - if something weird happens and it lasts longer than 15 minutes, (other than chest pains and stuff like that) - go to the hospital. I did confide in him that I feel like a huge hypocondriac because you can't always back up your claims of pain and fever spikes etc. He reassured me that I'm not a hypocondriac, that he has seen my fevers etc. I guess that made me feel a little better. Anyone else ever had that feeling? Like maybe it's all in your head? Lauri
