Guest guest
Holly, the darvocet that you are taking contains 650mg of tylenol in it, if you are taking an additional two more tylenol with it that is too much for your liver, you really shouldn't take any more than 1250mg max per dose, really 1000mg limit is best. If you are taking extra strength tylenol then you are getting 1650mg dose at once. If it were me I would skip the mtx and move straight on to enbrel or kineret, mainly for preference of very few side effects with enbrel and kineret and their effectiveness. GO DAWGS !!!!! Guest guest
Hi Holly, Methotrexate is usually the choice med doctor's prescribe for Stills. Many take it with no problems. I have been on it (7.5 mg) for over two years, and it has proved to help me more than other meds that have been prescribed for me. However.....I am now at a point in my life with the MTX where I am going to ask to change to the injectable form. There are (I am told) less side effects with the injectable MTX. I had no noticable side effects until a few weeks ago. Your doctor will also prescribe Folic Acid (usually 1 mg.) this should counteract side effects. What other meds are you taking???? ~~tricia~~ -- Re: Dr today... Methotrexate tablets the doctors did not go as well as i hoped. Guest guest
I was on MTX for a couple of years. I started of on pills gradually rising to 17.5mg/week. I have to say that they made me feel like sh*t. Within half an hour of taking them I got a severe headache, with nausea following for 2 or three days after. They also made me feel INCREDIBLY tired for 2 or 3 days and like death for about a day after taking them! I have to say that I have never experience such physical and mental fatigue before or since. I moved on to injections after a while which I tolerated much better - far less nausea and shorter fatigue. For me, I couldn't honestly say that I had any benefit from MTX, but I don't know how I would have been without it. When I got a nasty stomach bug we stopped the MTX for a couple of weeks to give me a chance to recover. I instantly felt better obviously as I wasn't suffering all the side effects, but my joints also ached a lot less! So I decided not to take it any more and moved on to Plaquenil. I can't say that the Plaquenil helped either but at least I didn't suffer any side effects from it! This of course is only MY experience with MTX. If you are going to try it - and it does work for a lot of people - then I would recommend taking folic acid to help with the nausea and move to injections if you suffer from the side effects to much. best wishes, Graham. Guest guest
Holly, Methotrexate is the only darn thing that seems to help me. Now it does not work overnight. Takes somewhere around a month of two, but then the real differance was noticed by me. I was in such bad shape that hands did not work, could not open door knobs, tear open a package of anything, open a jar of anything. Started out taking 6 pills a week, then up to 7 pills a week. Can say that have not had any bad side effects either. Has me takeing celebrex also daily, with that I personally believe am just donating to the price of TV commericals. Have been decreasing the prednisone. Slow process but will be down to 5mg tomorrow. Take a precription folic acid, Doc precribed it with the methotrexate, take dailey, has kept the mouth sores and such down to a minimum. Doc says and he is right, the prescription folic acid pills are cheaper and also do a better job. My prescription pain pills are getting dust on top of the bottle lid. I do take a tylenol arthritis pain pill once in a while. Good luck, wish ya the best, and get pain free. Dan > the doctors did not go as well as i hoped.
