,Any time I give a montage, I always give it in the form CH1 Act/CH1 Ref (for 1 channel) or CH1 Act/CH1 Ref/ground/CH2 Act/CH2 Ref (for 2 channels.  I don't use T3/T4 when I mean T3/A1, T4/A2.  It's too confusing.  So this is a 1-channel bipolar montage. That means that, as you say, we are training to increase the difference between the two sites in SMR (if that's what you are rewarding) and decrease the difference between them in whatever frequencies you are inhibititing.

I can't say I've used it very often for a long time, so I can't speak to its efficacy. Normally the assessment will show you a rather hot right hemisphere (betas high and often higher than on the left) with these problems, especially the irritability and the anger problems.

Pete,

In my copy of handouts from your training level 3, there is the following:

C4/T4 SMR can help reduce anger, anxiety, and irritated depression

Is this a 1 channel protocol with c4 and t4 referenced to each other? If yes-- we are then training up the difference between the two sites?

Why would increasing the difference in SMR between these two sites decrease

anger and irritability?

I haven't the slightest idea.  Remember that you are also decreasing the difference in high-beta, which could pull down the level in the temporals to match the generally lower levels at C4.I've used the old Othmer protocols in the past and still do try them sometimes, but they never could explain why they worked when they did, and neither can I.

Well, I've heard far far less parsimonious explanations. This is the most

convincing. Do seem to work though.
