Guest guest
Note that some news sources are repeating the story with incorrect dosages. " In their study, Hurwitz's team randomly assigned some 260 HIV-infected adults with no other major diagnosis to take 200-milligram capsules of inactive yeast (placebo) daily or 200-milligram capsules of high-selenium yeast. " The dose used in the study was 200 micrograms (millionth of a gram), not milligrams (thousandth of a gram). Selenium in high doses can be harmful. --- mercure615 <robdcee@...> wrote: > Nutrition 21's Selenomax® Suppresses Progression > of the Human > Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) According to Study > Results Published > in Archives of Internal Medicine > > > Study Findings > The double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled > trial evaluated > the > effects of once-daily supplementation with Selenomax > high selenium > yeast > (200 mcg selenium) in 262 study participants > seropositive for HIV-1. > test'; " > ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Have a burning question? Guest guest
WOW! This is yet the third brand-name attribution added to this dubious news! A better search for anyone to perform when considering the outcomes noted here would be on the leader researcher and selenium. It seems that Dr. Hurwitz, professor of psychology, published a similar finding regarding cardiovascular health and selenium three weeks ago. The supplement makers must be funding this work well. This link contains the original publication from the Archives of Internal Medicine. The actual changes in viral load and CD4s, as well as the wide variation in outcomes, leaves the statistics nerd in me unimpressed. http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/167/2/148 Cheers, shazambabyshazam@... writes: did a search after reading this article, and itseems that at 900-1000mcg, selenium becomes toxic and can cause hair andnails loss (scary)

Guest guest
I did a search after reading this article, and it seems that at 900-1000 mcg, selenium becomes toxic and can cause hair and nails loss (scary) allergic reactions and more, but at 200mcg or below seem to be safe and in mice and rats studies selenium seem to be protect against some form of cancer. In any case check your multivamins and other supplements, most likely is already in there. In my case it turns out my Multivatimin has already 50mcg and my antioxidant supplement has 100mcg. --- frank hill <fjosephe@...> wrote: > Note that some news sources are repeating the story > with incorrect dosages.
