Cris,

Welcome to the group!

Yes you are within your right to ask for a prescription. Is Charlie

getting a CT Scan or are they using the STAR scanner? You said he was

getting scanned tomorrow and I wasn't sure what type. We have parents

here who use MFB in Grand Rapids and I believe they have a STAR

scanner.

If you want to be armed with information on banding print up some

stuff in the files section.

You mentioned getting a prescription for a DOC Band. Cranialtech.com

has lots of great information to print up too. If you choose to get a

DOC Band you probably will be venturing to Chicago for one.

I think Charlie could definitely benefit from a band. You'll be

amazed at how well the bands can work.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow and post pictures so we can see his

cute little face too!

Hi !

Thanks for your quick and detailed reply.

I think it is a CT Scan, as it is an initial scan - a

first appointment with the neurologist. I am not sure

what kind of scan, to tell you the truth, so I guess

it could be a STAR scan. (laugh)

We are going to Freebed Hospital. Is that MFB?

I will print up the info and I will also look at the

CT site for additional information. I just want to be

able to ask directed and intelligent questions in

order to facilitate getting Charlie banded. He is

already 6.5 months, and I know time is running out.

Here's his lil face:

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Hi Cris,

Welcome to the group. It's good that he doesn't have tort. Charlie

is a big boy :) A lot of peds think it is only cosmetic. However,

the FDA does not consider it to be cosmetic. It is an abnormality.

There is some evidence that a flat head can cause issues later. We

have some research in the files section. The AAP recommends cranial

orthosis if flatness persists after 6 months of age.

Yes, I think you should come outright and ask the Dr for a RX. Tell

him you are very concerned about this flatness. You hve done some

research into the AAP guidelines and possible effects. Possible

long term issues are migraines, TMJ (jaw issues), eye sight, and

chronic ear infection. Chec kthe files - print some out to take

with you. It's your right to ask. If he won't write it find one

who will. Where in Michigan are you? We have quite a few members

from Michigan. Are you going to Free Bed??

Hi Cris,

Welcome to the group! I just want to second everything and

have already told you. It's totally your decision wether or not

your band your son. If he were my son, I'd band him. Good luck at

your apptointment, let us know how it goes. Don't be surprised if the

neuro has the same attitude as your pediatrician.

Could you point me toward the AAP guidelines recommending orthosis after 6 mos.

? It

would be useful in the Insurance battles to come . . .

Cris,

Welcome,I also second what told you and then some. I hope

things went well today. Charlie looks like he has brachy to me and

could benefit from band treatment. The thing I want you to understand

is that this is just not cosmetic. There are associated risks that go

along with plagio such as developemental delays, ear infections, TMJ,

vision problems, feeding issues, as well as self esteem issues later

in life.I am sorry your ped. is uninformed but that is not uncommon

unfortunately.I hope that the scan today will help get you on your

way to getting Charlie the help he needs and you want. Let me know

how it went.

Welcome! You'll find some company here with the Toronto helmet.

There are a few parents here whose children are wearing them!

I was always amazed at how well my kids adjusted to their bands too.

Hello!!

You are not alone in Toronto. We are from Toronto too and my son

Jaymin got his helmet from sick kids over a month ago and is doing

very well. His progress actually shocked our orthotist. He's 8 months

now. I will be posting before and after pictures soon. Maybe we

should have a toronto Plagio kids get-together :)

Hi, We are from Mississauga and our son's pictures are posted under Mark P. As yours, our Dr. kept telling us that Mark's plagio would go away since our boy was 2 months old. I must admit that his head got better on its own, but just a little bit. Who are you seeing at Sick Kids? davemarkcourt <snmccomb@...> wrote: What a great site.
