After seeing the question from on the butter thread, it got me to

thinking that it would be really nice to read about where others purchase their

food around town or online. I know I'm always looking for new places to purchase

items. I'm especially interested in finding local and affordable sources for

organic grains and fruit.

I'm gonna start it off with a quick run down of where I purchase foods. I hope

others chime in, because this could be very helpful for those who are just

getting started in real food and also help open up some new sources for others.

Organic, Grass-fed Beef:

-Farm on Wheels

-Thousand Hills

True Free-range, organic Chicken:

-Farm on Wheels

Organic Pork:

-Farm on Wheels or co-op (Farm on Wheels doesn't always have nitrate free pork

products.)

Eggs:

-Farm on Wheels or I have a wonderful woman who I get eggs through my milk

group.

Fish:

-Matt Oxford - Wild Run Salmon (fabulous!)

-Coastal Seafood

Milk:

-Gonna leave this one quiet, but we get ours from a wonderful local farm with

100% grass-fed cows.

-If we buy at the stores we go with Cedar Summit

Cheese:

-Make our own or purchase from a co-op

Butter:

-I make my own with real cream or purchase from Cedar Summit at co-op (I do also

use Organic Valley for baking, not my favorite but often cheaper and tends to go

on sale)

Grains:

-Co-op or Azure Standard

Fresh Produce:

-CSA

-Co-op (Wedge)

-Farmers Market

Fresh Fruit:

-Co-op (I think fresh fruit that's organic and in the realm of affordable is

very hard to find locally)

Dried Fruit:

-Co-op (Wedge)

Oils:

-Olive oil at Co-op (Wedge)

-Coconut oil either at Tropical Traditions or Green Pastures, both online

Cooking fats:

-I buy fat from Farm on Wheels and then make lard at home

Cultured foods (yogurt, kefir, cultured veggies, kombucho):

-I make all of our cultured foods at home

-Some of the co-ops carry cultured vegetables that aren't pasteurized

-You can also buy the starter items for cultured items through Cultures For Life

online (great and helpful site)

Unrefined Sea Salt:

-Celtic Sea Salt, purchase at Wedge or Azure Standard

Truly Raw & Organic Nuts:

-Order from people in this group or purchase from Wedge

Cod Liver Oil:

-Green Pastures online

Organic Raw Honey:

-Same place I get my milk

-Ames Farm at Mill City Farmer's Market

Grade A or B Maple Syrup:

-Kathy Jo in this group or where I get my milk

Bread:

-I make it at home, mostly sourdough

Coconut Meat and flour:

-Tropical Traditions (coconut flour can be made at home)

Mushrooms:

-Last summer there was a gentleman selling mushroom growing kits at the St.

Farmer's Market

Liquid Mineral Supplements:

-ConcenTrace Liquid Minerals - can get them from iherb.com, Radiant life online,

vitaminshoppe.com

These are the main foods I can think of off hand that we use on a regular basis.

It's from these items that I personally make everything else, like condiments

and so forth. Please add to the list and feel free to be more specific than I

was.

Thanks!
