Guest guest
I always wondered if it was putting my kids on cows milk formula was what caused the ear infections...b/c those kids that were on that early where the ones with the most ear infections :-( UGH, the more I know about cows milk the more it frustrates me that we give it to (even force it on) our kids. with our ASD DS I nursed him for 9 mos, but for a while even *I* had to cut out all dairy, ALL DAIRY, or he became colicy. The stopped after 6 or 7 mos old, but I think I should have kept him off dairy, but I didnt. Donna <--who also grew up on a diet heavily laden with cows milk lol >===== Original Message From " Donna B " <Donna@...> ===== >My now 10 yod (NT) lived on antibiotics for a while as a baby -- Augmentin made her violently ill (stomach pains and diarrhea to where she'd bend) so she was mainly on Amoxicillin but she's fine now. My 4 yos with HFA had numerous ear infections, too, but rarely on Augmentin, mostly Amoxicillin and even Rocephin after a bit, which he turned out to be very allergic to. > >I've gone back/forth on antibiotics -- not because I think it causes autism (I probably would say I don't see that in our case, at least) but because antibiotics don't always work, and the other side-effects aren't great sometimes. I've read several reports that say most ear infections go away without antibiotics, but seeing a kid in pain ... it's hard to do that. I've tried it before, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. If it was my first time, and he's in a lot of pain, I'd do it..my son ended up with tubes and hearing loss, though not permanent, thank God. Apparently scarring can result, too. > Re: antibiotics > > > My AS kid never had an ear infection and has never has antibiotics. Guest guest
My son was never breastfed and has never had an ear "infection". He has had fluid buildup behind the drum, but it never caused an infection. Heck, we didn't even KNOW about the fluid build-up until we looked into why he wasn't talking and that was after his second birthday. He'll be 5 in Sept.
