Guest guest
Both my reps are voting against this. It's way worth it to contact them. ________________________________ From: cowartbeth <cowartbeth@...> Sent: Tue, April 12, 2011 6:08:35 PM Subject: Bill to BAN video of farming operations in MN Bill would ban video of MN farming operations | StarTribune.com Sounds like a flurry of letters and calls is needed to stop this. Bill would ban video of farming operations ... an attempt to clamp down on whistle-blowers; sponsors say it's an effort to stop harassment. .... www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/119516799.html " It would become illegal in Minnesota to produce or distribute information about animal mistreatment or agricultural pollution under a bill introduced this week at the Legislature. Animal rights advocates say the bill -- which resembles measures being pushed by legislators in other states, including Iowa -- amounts to an unconstitutional infringement on free speech that would have a chilling effect on whistle-blowers trying to bring attention to cases of animal cruelty. Guest guest
Monsanto's at it again. Michele, that's good to hear. We could all take a minute to call our reps to make sure they're against it, too. Also, here's something from Fresh the Movie with an online petition (although contacting your local reps about the MN bill is most important): " Have you heard Big Agriculture's latest move? They want to keep you in the dark. Remember those undercover photos and videos of animal abuse and environmental damage at factory farms? Under a proposed Iowa law, broadcasting (and even possessing) these images would be a crime. Last month, Florida's state legislature passed a bill that attacks farm photographers and limits their activities. Now, it's Iowa's turn. Iowa Bill H.F. 589 has already been passed by the Iowa House, and is now up for debate in the Senate. Let's stop this trend before it can spread to other states. Protect your rights to free speech and information. Voice your opposition to Sen. Rielly, floor manager for H.F. 589 - click to sign our petition now. Guess who's sponsoring this? That's right, Monsanto has been lobbying heavily for this bill behind the scenes. They're trying to draw an iron curtain around their operations and scare away potential whistle-blowers with legal threats. Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Tell the Iowa Senate that they cannot hide unsavory farming practices from vigilant eyes. We're here to keep watch on our food, our communities and our environment. Guest guest
Here's their petition: http://action.freshthemovie.com/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=6403 It's for Iowa, so it's good they'll know their neighbors are watching. Maybe they'll do a petition for MN. > > > > Both my reps are voting against this. It's way worth it to contact them. > > >
