Guest guest
While it's plenty easy to find healthier places to dine out at in Minneapolis, the suburbs are still working on that...BUT it's improving! From the recommendation of a friend, I went to check out a newer Cafe today that's at the Galleria and *gasp* they really do serve REAL food (yes, I know, Crave is also at the Galleria)! It's called People's Organic Cafe. Their set-up is trendy, but not uppity as one might expect, given its location. It's more like a very glorified cafeteria, BUT it serves REAL FOOD (did I mentioned that before?) that has been sourced by local farms and businesses. I had a 100% grass-fed beef burger from Thousand Hills served on a SPROUTED wheat bun. Also had a surprisingly delicious coleslaw (I'm typically not much of a coleslaw fan) made w/ their own sauce. Lots of soups, salads, sandwiches, and other goodies to choose from. My only disappointment was that when asked how I'd like my burger cooked, I said, " as rare as legally possible. " When I bit into the burger there was no pink to be found :-( It doesn't look like they have a website set-up yet, but here's the closest I can find for add'l info: http://www.galleriaedina.com/eat/peoples-organic-coffee-wine-cafe-opens/ Worth checking out and SUPPORTING all of these places that are doing the right thing. Guest guest
Thank you, Becca! It is good to know where to spend those dollars in support of REAL food! Guest guest
That sounds wonderful, we'd love to go! With the gas prices so high, we've minimized our driving as much as possible, so Edina is a bit out of our range, from Brooklyn Park. I'd LOVE to see some real food options in the north metro (Champlin or Maple Grove? Brooklyn Park or Blaine?), including a coop. Anoka's a bit far and our next option is either the Wedge or Seward, which are also a fair drive. Any budding restaurant folks, please consider up our way!!! Guest guest
Hi Jenn~~~ As for co-ops, it sounds like you're about in the middle of two locations that sell real food... * Grassroots Co-op in Anoka (formerly Lakewinds, and even more formerly, it was simply the Anoka co-op (this was the first co-op I ever stepped foot into when I was a squirt. My mom didn't go there for the sake of health; she went there to be able to get herbs in bulk for a better cost). They have a 10% off coupon on their website for first-timers: www.grassrootscoop.net 1917 2nd Avenue Anoka, MN 55303 * Fresh & Natural Foods 4234 Lancaster Ln N Minneapolis, MN 55441 (it's in the Four Season's Mall just off of Rockford Rd & 169) So now we just need to get a better selection of restaurants in your area!
