Guest guest
, I've learned way too much about reflux since my son has a severe case of it. One of the things I've learned is that reflux is normally caused by a food allergy or sensitivity. Duncan is allergic to fish & chocolate. He's not anaphylactic, though. Two days ago at day care, they gave him fish sticks & he's still got a runny nose, cough, etc. Fish stays in his system for about 3-5 days & during that time, he constantly refluxes. I have to give him benadryl to shorten the time of the allergic reaction--plus, it dries up the runny nose some. Try to keep a food diary & see if you see a relation between what he's eating & how much he refluxes. Some of the most common & hard to eliminate allergens include: dairy, peanuts, wheat, & soy. Guest guest
Just my 2 cents, the food allergy and reflux was Kody's GERD problems. When we went to U of M for his testing, they told us that because Kody is latex allergic he should never eat banana's, avocado's, and chestnuts. There are more to avoid or limit exposure to as well, but those are the three biggest because apparently there is a cross over allergy from the latex to those particular foods. Once we cut out banana's out of his diet (which he ate daily) and we limit the other foods on the list (potatoes, tomatos, melons, are also on the list) Kody's reflux has settled down to nothing. He doesn't even take his zantac anymore (except on the rare occasions that he eats a banana, or has too much potatoes or tomatoes in his diet). I never knew that there were foods related to the latex allergy but I sure am glad I do now!! Diane Mom to Kody
Guest guest
Just wanted to throw our two cents in. has a milk intolerance (including lactose-free milk), the two factors of it being that she gets caustic diarrhea from drinking liquid cow's milk and she gets reflux from yogurt. But that's it -- cheeses and ice cream and other stuff don't seem to bother her. Funny how some things from a food class can bother them and others don't -- wanted you to be aware of that possibility too. (mom to , age 3. Currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA (was supposedly " absent " ), t-cell & other defs)
Guest guest
Evan is being tested for a milk or casein allergy. He had a prick test but the casein came back inconclusive. So we are doing the blood test. However we are also doing a titres check after a prevnar vaccine so I have to wait. Next tuesday is three weeks. He also breaks out on his face, i think from milk but i am not totally sure. The doctors have all said that he MUST be allergic to something, if not then its an intolerance. So far we are avoiding soy, egg white, apple, banana and milk. Fun, Fun, Fun. -- > Just wanted to throw our two cents in. has a milk intolerance > (including lactose-free milk), the two factors of it being that she gets > caustic diarrhea from drinking liquid cow's milk and she gets reflux from > yogurt. Guest guest
: Just so you know, tested negative to everything, including milk (RAST allergy testing). So you can reflux from a food intolerance or whatever. (mom to , age 3.
