Guest guest
Hi! I'm really early in a pregnancy and want to eat right, and I have 2 questions. * My doctor says don't eat soft cheezes and sprouts because they might carry a germ that would threaten the pregnancy. Well what about my kombucha and raw saurkraut? * Also, all the diet information says eat whole grains and dairy. I don't do well eating grains and dairy. If I add a bunch of extra spinach and beans in my diet every day and take calcium pills, do you think that would make up for leaving out grains and dairy? Thanks,

Guest guest
When building a person you need REAL food and not some extra pills. Yes there are times to take supplements but check out this list and do what you can from there. I would start with CLO and liver. Move on to good fats like butter or coconut oil if you can not do dairy. Eggs and good meat would also be on the top of the list. http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/311-diet-for-pregnant-and-nursing-m\ others.html Happy Baby building! Guest guest
The link that gave includes this, but I just wanted to highlight that bone broths are a really good way to get calcium - as well as other nutrients - if you aren't eating/drinking dairy. It is also very healing for the digestive system, which is probably a great thing for you if you currently have troubles digesting dairy & grains (I am on that same journey to better digestion myself!). As for the kombucha and saurkraut, all I can tell you is that I wish I had eaten more while I was pregnant. As someone who has food allergies, I know my gut flora has a lot of room for improvement. I have come a long way from where I once was, but my daughter (9months now) ended up having colic, which I learned after the fact is greatly related to the imbalance of bacteria/microbes in the gut (and to the inflammation that comes through the breastmilk due to Mom's allergies). From my perspective, the more probiotics you can get in your system the better! Anne
Guest guest
Are you raw or cooked paleo? Eat as rich of foods as you can handle. Organ meats like liver, kidney, heart. Liver is probably the best, but the other two are great. The heart has the least robust taste. The kidney is not quite as strong as the liver. Don't hesitate to load up on fatty foods of all kinds from pastured source, butter, organs, cream, coconut, eggs, lard, suet. Your baby will thank you for it. Eggs if you can handle them raw. They should be pastured when available. You could probably order grass fed bones either as marrow bones or dog bones. If you're able to eat them raw let them set until they're room temp. Then scoop it out, taste is like a very thick cream. In my opinion original foods don't get too much richer than this, cept maybe jersey or guernsey cream.. Otherwise cook per any recipe you find on the web. Avocados. And then for a wide array of trace minerals, lots of colored veggies, but not too many from the root category, because of high sugar content, either pre and/or post digestion... You can't handle any dairy at all? If you can handle any it would at least be good to get some cream. But if not then that's ok too..even though it is wonderful and nutritious for some people, it's not for everyone. Also moderate amounts of a wide variety of fruits, depending on your sugar tolerance. If you must do grains, be sure to soak them well. Easy on the beans, that's a lot of starch, and cooked. Be moderate. These are just suggestions, but don't forget to ask your body what it wants and listen to it.
Guest guest
So many superb suggestions already, but I would add that you may want to get ahold of the new edition of the GAPS book (Gut & Psychology Syndrome) by Dr. -McBride, and read the new chapters on pregnancy and new baby (especially given your issues with grains and dairy, but also as good overall information for giving your baby the strongest possible start in life, with healthy gut flora and strong immune system). Amazon appears out of the book at the moment, but you can get it from the store section of gapsdiet.com. Enjoy this special time!
