Guest guest
debbbie, my son is the same way, NO stranger anxiety! It scares the crap out of me. He would walk off with anyone who was " nice " to him. I had someone tell me how that was the opposite of most ASD kids. That they usually have a sense of increased stranger anxiety. >===== Original Message From " Anne " <Lady_Anne76@...> ===== >--------------Boundary-00=_2CMFLVC0000000000000 >Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset= " iso-8859-1 " >Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable > >Debbi, > >IMHO, what you described of your son sounds like possible Aspergers, which >most researchers believe is a form of HFA. Guest guest
It makes sense to me, since they have a problem understanding friendships, that they would also not understand the concept of a stranger. It's very scary! Anne -- Re: Last night's Without a Trace>>In a message dated 2/4/2005 12:34:23 PM Pacific Standard Time,>Autism and Aspergers Treatment writes:>Donna@... wrote:>Did anyone watch it? Guest guest
Hi Marie, My little grandson, , is like this. He is 4 and ever since he could talk he has been the friendliest little kid I have ever seen. He talks to everybody when we go out to the store, or to the Goodwill. I kind of like it in a way, because as long as he is talking, then I know where he is. It is when he gets quiet I panic. And it does have it's good side, because I am more outgoing now as he has led the way for me. I used to be really quiet and reserved, but now quite often I speak to strangers too, and nothing bad has happened yet! His sister, who is 7, is not like him at all. She in more "normal," will talk if she needs to but does not initiate long in depth conversations about movie characters, etc., with complete strangers. In fact, he tends to embarrass her quite a bit. Hmmmm? Kids. Guest guest
lol, he sounds just like my 4 year old daughter! Doesnt matter where we are, she will talk to anyone. Wants to know their life story and tells them hers. Her pre-school gave her the "most outgoing" title at the end of last year. -Charlotte Re: Last night's Without a Trace>>In a message dated 2/4/2005 12:34:23 PM Pacific Standard Time,>Autism and Aspergers Treatment writes:>Donna@... wrote:>Did anyone watch it? Guest guest
My HFA 4 year old gs has NO stranger fear and never displayed separation anxiety .We just recently broke him of the habit of running to strangers with a big hug ! I agree It is scary as our children are even more vulnerable to predators than NT children are .We live at the beach and have a walled and gated courtyard and are installing a solid wood gate across are driveway for this reason . Interesting...neither of my sons have stranger anxiety either...... Guest guest
My ds just turned 8 and has never had any anxiety, he just talks to everyone, whether they are interested or not! A couple of years ago @ Disney, Kody would run off and when I would call him he'd hide from me! OH GOSH!!! Well, on our last trip, he did the same thing and I "hid" from him and watched carefully. It was more than 15 minutes before he noticed that I was "gone". (Although watching from very close proximity). He's much better now than before. I don't want to panic him, but he needs to understand that he just can't run off.................... Thanks for listening! Guest guest
We had the same problems with our Beth. When she was little, under 6 or so, she'd just take off like a streak because she wanted to or saw something that interested her. After that, she often did that when she was angry. I remember ONE of my horror stories....at SeaWorld. This happened there! She got angry and wanted nothing to do with us so would just walk the other way, no worry about losing us. Arghghgh. That whole day was one of pins and needles, can you say EGGSHELLS? It was not one of our better memories of a family vacation. Obviously, in hindsight, she couldn't handle the overstimulating sights and sounds of it all....and was so happy to get back in the car, heading for the condo and SAFETY. And the thing about her is she wouldn't talk to ANYONE. If she did get lost she wouldn't talk to anyone. She'd walk around and worry and eventually cry until someone came and rescued her. She's better now at 16, but still has a very, very hard time talking to someone (social anxiety) unless they talk to her first. maralee RE: stranger anxiety My HFA 4 year old gs has NO stranger fear and never displayed separation anxiety .We just recently broke him of the habit of running to strangers with a big hug !
