Guest guest
Vaccinations!!! Sharyn mother of 5 aspergers Correlations and cluster brainstorming Hi just brainstorming on some possible clues to what causes the riseof autism.Any comments welcomed.1. Any correlation on mothers who did/didn't breast feed?2. Any correlation of people who live in areas that their land wasformerly agricultural in the 50's where DDT and other pestisides wereused?3. Any correlation of folks who live near landfills (garbage dumps).4. Is there a cluster of autism in your community? Wondering ifresearchers see a higher concentration in certain geographical areasversus other areas in the country.5. Percentage of parents who used marijuana or other illegal drugsprior to child being born.I am not an expert but just trying to see if there is any thoughtprovoking points that can help all of us. Guest guest
Hi Becky, Professor Simon Baron-Cohen at Cambridge university (UK) is researching into a possible link with raised testosterone levels in utero caused by the foetus itself. However, I believe he is also going to see if PCOS may be involved in some cases. This is linked to his theory of the extreme male brain in autism. in England
Guest guest
None of these apply to me/us anywhere near the time of my pregnancy or afterwards! sorry Rabecca > Hi just brainstorming on some possible clues to what causes the rise > of autism. > > Any comments welcomed. > > 1. Guest guest
Tyler did have a hard time with his vaccinations too, and another son of mine died three days after being vaccinated in 1989. He was 3 months, two days old... Rabecca > Vaccinations!!! > > Sharyn mother of 5 aspergers

Guest guest
Becky, I also have PCOS, to the point of having had one ovary finally burst and taken out by emergency surgery. Though I am now on meds to regulate the hormones (as my body still overproduces with the one remaining ovary)they couldn't get my hormones under control during pregnancy without risking my unborn son. At one point, my testosterone levels were so high that I began growing facial hair and had " typical male agression " symptoms. My body was covered with acne, and my mental state wasn't in very good shape. I am just sooooo incredibly glad that the doctors figured out how to get them back under control (the loss of the one ovary sure helped)Anyway, I feel for you! I had never thought of that possibly being a contributing factor. I also had inutero infections as well as vaginal infections during my pregnancy that were bad enough to where the doctors recommended a DNC, saying my son would most likely be blind, deaf, and possibly brain affected. I refused (I had lost my first born less than a year prior and couldn't handle the thought of conciously terminating this one) I feel so blessed and lucky to have Tyler. He was born against incredible odds and can see, hear, and is incredibly smart... So what if he has AS, he is healthy!!! ~grins~ Rabecca
Guest guest
I firmly believe that Alonzo is genetically autistic as I my cousin has to boys on the spectrum and there are many people on my Dad's side who are described as "eccentric", you know...what they USED to call aspergers I believe it is considered to be a double recessive gene so it must also be on dh's side, but he doesn't know half of his medical history. sam orona <telebuddy@...> wrote: Hi just brainstorming on some possible clues to what causes the riseof autism.Any comments welcomed.1. Asperger's is definitely in my husbands's family (son, husband, father-in-law, possibly brother-in-law, possibly grandfather-in-law (based on husband's memory of him)). When my son was dx'd and we realised that others in the family were also candidates there was a potential huge rise in the number of cases! sam orona <telebuddy@...> wrote: Hi just brainstorming on some possible clues to what causes the rise of autism. Any comments welcomed. 1. Any correlation on mothers who did/didn't breast feed? Both my NT daughter and my AS son were breast-fed. Both were full-term, but my daughter was the one with a difficult birth. 2. Any correlation of people who live in areas that their land was formerly agricultural in the 50's where DDT and other pestisides were used? Not that I'm aware of. Both daughter and son born in the same area, however husband born 150 miles away and father-in-law born elsewhere still. 3. Any correlation of folks who live near landfills (garbage dumps). Same comments as above. 4. Is there a cluster of autism in your community? Wondering if researchers see a higher concentration in certain geographical areas versus other areas in the country. No but there's a cluster in my family. 5. Percentage of parents who used marijuana or other illegal drugs prior to child being born. Only drugs used were aspirin by myself and anti-histamines by my husband, and caffeine by both of us. Never had any illegal drugs, never smoked, scarcely drink alcohol. And there is definitely nothing associated with vaccination in the family. in England
