A New Look at Autism

Hi,

My name is Donna. I'm a Mom to a delightful 4.5 year old boy who was

once 1 point from " severe " on the ADOS evaluation. At this point

thanks to prayer, love and great therapies he is soaring. He's an

amazing little guy!

Through my journey, I began to think of the good parts of having a

son on the spectrum.

As ludicrous as that sounds, there really ARE some wonderful

experiences. Sometimes we just need to look at things from a

different prospective.

I would never have learned to appreciate language and the miracle it

is for any of us to be able to communicate if I hadn't had a child

with such difficulties in this area!

I would never have felt joy in small and simple things others take

for granted!

I would never have marveled at the tenacity of my small child if

everything came easy!

I would never have witnessed the hand of God in such an incredible

way if it weren't for my son's needs!

As I pondered these thoughts, I wrote a poem I'd like to share, maybe

it can help someone who is frustrated stop and refocus.

It's Spelled Wrong!

By Donna

A mistake has been made.

The word doctors and neurologists

use to diagnose our children is autism,

but it should be AWEtism. Just think…

Awe at my child's progress.

Awe at each accomplishment.

Awe that we've been blessed to bepart of a miracle

Awe to see God's hand at work in my child's life.

Awe to meet such wonderful people.

Awe for each little step in the right direction.

Awe for the love I never knew I had.

It's not Autism, it's AWEtism!

I have a little website that I have turned this poem along with the

sayings " It's not autism, it's AWEtism " and " AWEtism...Life on the

BRIGHT SIDE of the Spectrum " on T-shirts, mugs, posters, journals and

other gifts. If you have a special teacher or therapist in your

child's life, these will make wonderful gifts for the holiday season.

Please stop by my store " The AWEtism Shoppe " and see my things.

www.cafepress.com/awetism is the web address.

Thanks and God bless each one of you!
