Lithium update

Hello again, First I want to say thank you, especially to Maralee,

Stacey, and Rabecca. Today has been rough and seeing your

responses and welcome notes, well at least now I'm crying tears of

happiness! I live in the Hudson Valley area of New York so GA is a

difficult commute but your group sounds great. I will look for

something like that here. I also contacted a new Psychiatrist that

was highly recommended. She wants to review all the testing thats

been done and have us fill out more questionairres on Lee's early

childhood. In some ways I think 'uhhgg, starting from nothing again'

but on the other hand I feel his care has been so mishandled by his

doctors so far that a fresh review will be helpful. Lee is a great

kid and like you said, Rabecca, I view many of his " problems " as

strengths. He is funny and kind and has real determination with

academic subjects.

Monday we go to see the old psychiatrist (couldnt get an appt. with

the new MD until later) to review the blood test results and discuss

her HORRIBLE communication approach with us - right down to getting

this blood test done. When the hosp. wanted to change Lee's meds I

called her to check on her thoughts and she said the hospital MD's

were the experts and we should trust them. Now that Lee is home she

says she wont be his doctor because Lithium is not safe. But I called

her on Monday to ask for a script. for the necessary blood work and

got the runaround until today (friday). I went in to get the script.

and it says he should skip his am Lithium dose on the day of the test

which means we cant get the test done until tomorrow (sat.) when it

was supposed to get done wed. I think she could have told me about

the am dose issue on the phone so I wouldnt have had this problem!!

Arrrgggghhhh!!!

Thank you for letting me rant. My friends here are wonderful but

they have no clue what this is like and ask questions like " Lee is so

smart, cant you explain to him that the other kids are just joking? "

etc. To have people out there who know and understand is Priceless.
