The confusion here is that in the UK the psychiatrist is a qualified medical

doctor who has taken further training in psychiatry (a medical field),

whereas an educational psychologist has a degree in psychology (not a

medical qualification), a teaching qualification and experience and has then

undergone further training in educational psychology. I think that

technically here only those with the medical qualification can put their

names to a dx.

This is ALMOSt the same here . All up until you said that last sentence. My son went to MANY medical doctors and NONE had a name for specifically what he had only ADHD. Anyway, we went to a Psychologist who was getting her PhD and she told us after many visits and did diagnos with the Aspergers.
