Guest guest
I apologize since this is mostly off topic, but I need a vet recommendation or ideas for my 8 y/o cat. I discovered she was voiding blood, took her in and to make a long story short, she has a bladder infection plus one stone seen on x-ray. I've read this is caused by poor food and I have to say I'm surprised. I've intermittently fed her raw, along with canned Wellness brand and their dry called Core here and there. I had thought Wellness was a better brand, but guess not! She's now on Royal Canin SO canned, which is supposed to dissolve struvite stones, but Oxilate ones need to be surgically removed. My vet thinks they're struvite because of the shape and since there's only one. Of course, she's on an antibiotic and pain meds too. I called another vet, The Cat Care Clinic, way up in Mahtomedi for a 2nd opinion and she said surgery soon no matter what type of stone, because of blockage possibilities (less so in female cats, which mine is) and continued irritation from the stone. So far, one vet says wait and see, the other, a more aggressive approach. So, anyone have ideas? I was kinda hoping Will might chime in... Food ideas? I'm thinking rotating is always better... Because of antibiotic, I was thinking of adding a cc or so of my homemade goat yogurt to her food? Kristi
Guest guest
I don't have any books about herbs and cat toxicity, but if this was a human, I would give gravel root (joe pye weed root) to break up the stone and pass naturally.
