I got an email Sunday night, she explained that the kids would have no assistance from the adults and would be asked to write a short story with beginning middle and end and they would be marked for sequece, use of descriptive language and puctuation. , you should e-mail the teacher back and get the assignment modified. I bristle when I think of the absurd amount of home work given to first graders now a days. I can assure you it does not make them a better student .I would spend 2 hours every Sun. helping my son in first grade with math, and he went into fourth grade not being able to answer 3+4 and he is smart. ly I don’t believe in home work for young kids, getting through a busy day is more than enough stress. What bothers me is the schools expect kids to write a story, but they have never taught them the tools they need to do this. I am 49, halfway intelligent and could not do what she asked.
