Guest guest
The next thing I know, the guy who never talks and acts so " weird " spoke up. He said " There are 7 adults on this college campus with Asperger's and I am one of them " The instant shame I felt made me want to hide in a corner and cry. Even though he never heard those things I said about him, in my heart, I was soooo sorry. Well , at least you recognize your mistake and admit it, many would never do this. I’ve felt guilty about not really wanting my son, 12, As. around a kid with NVLD (non verbal learning disorder). I feel bad because the kid does have difficulties, but I don’t want my son picking up on his behaviors(swears, terrible attitude, absolutely no respect) Anyway, there is always something to feel guilty about, do take care, Gail

Guest guest
, Thank you so much for sharing this! It is good to remind us to treat everyone around us as we hope our children would be treated! Don't beat yourself up...it is human nature and a part of human nature that is very hard to check sometimes. The important thing is that you see things differently now. And that you have shared this with us so that we can learn too! Piaquadio <kristinf4jpa@...> wrote: Since the day I found out my son had Asperger's, Ihave tried to shelter my son. All I have wanted was toprotect my son from the world. Especially from thosekids who ridicule and bully my son at school and inthe neighborhood. I have always thought "how can thesekids be so mean". And to the adults who stare at meand my son when he acting up in public "how dare yoube so ignorant not to realize my son has adisability".Well tears came to my eyes tonight after mycommunication class at school. The shame I felt as Idrove home...The story:A few weeks ago a guy sat next to me in class. Healways acted different in class and barely spoke. Asclass went on that nite, my professor got a phonecall. As she was leaving the room, the guy next to meblurted out "fool". Then he continued on as theprofessor spoke to say odd things.I went home and told my husband how weird he was andstarting joking about it. It was a joke between myhusband and I.Well I went to class tonight. We got on the topic ofhow mothers and father's can never be totally preparedto raise kids. Then we started talking about my sonand Aspergers. Ihave become one of those ignorant people that I get somad at.I don't think I can forgive myself, but I can vow tonever repeat this mistake.I can only hope no one has to feel the way I do rightnow... __________________________________ Do you ?
